Yeah, junking the default (sort of dorky) appearance and going with tormented, damned souls.
There's one of them in the RttToEE. Here's what I have written up for her:
(Wat is a ghost.)
1. Wat is the man who drove Dala to suicide.
A small trickle of blood is dripping down though the floor, and a large wet spot of blood has formed there. Nothing anyone can do can get rid of this bloodstain. It can be gathered into a vial, and each ounce acts as a potion of invisibility. It has a major side effect, however: 2d4 Wis damage.
1a. Upstairs, they can find the source of the blood. In the bathroom, Dala is lying in a tub filled with dark water. Her head is back against the rim, her eyes are closed, and she's very pale. One arm lies out over the floor, and blood flows from a deep cut in her wrist. There's a big puddle of blood on the floor, and it's soaked through, causing the drip downstairs. Manoeuvering on the blood calls for a Balance check (DC 15).
She looks as she did in life, a fetching beauty with an innocent face, except for her ghostly pallor and the blood that drains out of her wrists and coalesces into a bloody-mist from her waist on down that trails off to nothingness.
Closer inspection reveals the water in the tub is mixed with copious amounts of blood. Dala might stir, beginning to babble madly - "He won't let me go! It never ends! I want to be free!" - or whatever will freak out the players. If the PCs enter combat with her, she rises from the tub, the lower half of her body trailing off into a bloody mist, leaving a trail wherever she goes.
The blood cannot be cleaned by any means save the death of Dala herself. Dala can be freed by the death of Wat.
Wat should be watching the whole time, and can use the PC's distraction with Dala to strike at them.
