The Beasties of Beowulf

Demiurge, I'm willing to guess that Khisanth's orknies are the same as the whale-beasts. The whale-beasts, in turn, seem similar to what I've heard called a sea orc (but which was nothing like the typical DnD orc), which I believe was the source of the name orca and likely that one as well.

I think you should stat out Beowulf.

I'm curious what kind of game mechanic one would employ to pull off a Bog Giant's arm. And I presume his chain shirt provided a hefty DR.

How about it demiurge?

That sounds like a challenge, Chieromancer. I'm game. Beowulf will be statted, er, eventually.

And I'm willing to make the arm-pulling a grapple-pin-coup-de-grace attempt. It's all in the flavor-text.

Demiurge out.

Just wanted to delurk long enough to say "Great stuff", demiurge. I always find something in your threads to squirrel away for future campaigns.

Well

And you haven't graced them with your new and modern translation of the piece? Demi, how could you?!

For those who wish it, it's on this page.

I just wanted to put the statting of Beowulf back on the front burner. I hope it isn't bad timing on my part. But even if you can't stat him quite yet, perhaps you could let us know what you are thinking of for him?

Like, are you going to make Beowulf epic level? Any prestige classes? Templates?

Do you have Four Color to Fantasy? A few levels of hero would help make him suitably impressive. And hero points could help compensate for low treasure. I haven't read the Beowulf saga, but somehow I doubt that he is as tricked out with magic gear as the average high level character is.

Hmm...
I don't have Four-Color to Fantasy, no. I was thinking of making him high-level, but not epic, and probably use the pugulist class from Dragon 309 (?). It's a variant fighter, more geared towards unarmed combat. I'd also consider using the Reaping Mauler PrC from Complete Warrior, as it's designed for grapplers, of whom Beowulf was one of the best.

Demiurge out.
