Yeah, won't happen, Wizards don't have the balls for that. Yet I would love it. That would ensure that Fighters actually are tougher (have higher constitution) than Wizards.

Interesting, this poll played out differently than the other one (with a slightly majority for the traditional way), though I guess that is in part due to the fact that some posters seem to have interpreted "Slow Death" quite different from others.

Death dependent on HP like the power word spells but with the saves/attack roll vs defenses factored in.

Sleep effect d4 targets. Any target with 5HP or less is asleep for 1 round per level. For every point you exceed the targets will save by it can effect a target who currently has one more HP.

I think some attacks could carry a condition payload. -See, whatever you attack with you do hp damage. If you are reduced to zero hp you become unconscious. Unless of course the attack has a condition payload. If it does you become affected of whatever the condition might be. (Normally you would start to bleed and die at -10 as per usual).

Examples:

Death - instant death
Baleful polymorph - you are turned to a frog
Petrification - you are turned to stone
Disintegration - you are turned to dust
...

If you are subject of a disintegrate attack and survive you still might have taken say 45 hp damage. Maybe you are now at 2 hp. Then someone hits you with a sap that does 5 hp non-lethal damage and renders you unconscious but not bleeding. The disintegrate is now long forgotten (because who like to keep track?).

Maybe they'll work off of the "bloodied" status? Similar to working on hit points, except without the risk of blasting away a fully healthy wizard?

Its not a bad idea but I want the ability to blast away certain people if there weak enough even at full health. I don't want to have to wait for the fighter to pimp slap a commoner for a round before I can finally turn him to stone.
