Sadly, WotC did not take this opportunity for an "expansion" article to fix some fundamental flaws of a broken class. There are no de-suckifying feats, the pact boon triggers in exactly the same "My Ranged Controller is using a Melee Striker Feature" sort of way, and save a few at Paragon tier, the powers don't have really good riders for the Binder build.

HOWEVER... Some of these powers are pretty sweet. Lure of Loyalty seems pretty solid. Oh, and lookee here! At Level 7, an Encounter power that Dominates AND that you use out of turn! Well! Sure, you have to be attacked in melee, but what an awesome thing to have up your sleeve as you casually roll into melee range daring your DM to attack.

I especially like the L7 dominate the more I think about it. Binders were screwed by design with their curse triggers. This gives you an awesome threat up your sleeve - what DM wouldn't think twice about attacking a nearby Binder if he knows you have that Dominate ready to use against the first thing that attacks you?

Sadly, WOTC seems unwilling to do this. I really would like them to go back and look at some of the beginning content again and fix it up a bit. Overall it is fine, but eratta does not only have to be nerfing, it can be boosting also, something WOTC does not seem to agree with.

I haven't looked into the binder class at all as it doesn't interest me overmuch, but that does sound like a juicy power.

The way it is described, the power reminds me of the trick used by the spellcasting women from the Sword of Truth series (I forget what they're called).

Man, they really just don't get why this class is so useless, do they? lol.

All this article did was give the PHB1 Warlock some extra powers to choose from. Which is all the Binder ever really was, anyway.

*blink* Binder at-wills have a level now? I thought the only thing the class had going for it was having true controller at wills that regular warlocks didn't get access to?

I disagree. They made some substantial changes to classes over 2 years old last year. I think the problem (or perception thereof) is that they don't do it as quickly as we expect in the internet age.

Neon: Sure, of course they do -- but there are some ways to get a free choice for at wills as a warlock (be a hybrid, be human). If the only thing a Binder has going for them is a better set of at-wills, you end up making those options crazily good, as they get to combine the core features of both classes.

Of course, the same thing is true for druids of summer out of the box, just in reverse. (but at least classic druids have wild shape and an extra at will).
