The source of the sound

The party's search turns up a tarnished silver holy symbol and a small red gem of some sort. Assorted silver and copper coins seem to be scattered about the lair, no doubt secreted there by the rats. There is also a broken metal point of some sort, separate from the arrows that the party fired. It perhaps came from an arrow or spear.

Before there is time to properly count and assess the coins, the party hears a faint whispering sound, like a distant exhalation. The scraping sound is heard again, much closer. To your horror, figures round the corner, stepping out of the gloom at the back of the cave. They stride towards you with deliberate, exaggerated slowness.

He Who Lurks Beyond The Veil
Dzax was already expecting something to come up from the cave and as he sees the slowness of the figures a thought occurs to him. Zombies?

He picks up the stone again and throws it to the midst of the creatures to get a better look, and moves to take front.

[sblock=OOC]Pick up the stone with the light spell and throw it at the creatures, then move to position between them and the rest of the party.

Sayida stared at the approaching figures with disgust. The living dead were one of the terrors which were often laid at the feet of wizards- necromancy was one of the excuses that the persecutors used to incite people against the arcane arts. For all of that, Sayida had only heard of them- she had never seen them until now...

Four decaying bodies become distinct as they shamble closer. It becomes apparent that these were not originally human, though they are bipedal. They are too small and their heads are oddly shaped.

Dzax recalls the identifying features of different types of undead from his priestly studies. These shambling corpses exhibit characteristic decay, shuffling gait, and thickening of the skin. They are zombies, and the same magic that animates them renders them resistant to physical damage that is not done with slashing weapons.

OOC Giving you a bit more information now, so you have time to digest it. Also gave Dzax his Know (religion) info.

Sayida set herself into a ready stance, her quarterstaff ready for attack or defense- her stumble against the rats made her wary of charging headlong into a fight in this rough-floored cavern...

OOC: Ready action to attack the first zombie that comes into range. If someone mentions the whole DR/slashing issue, she will instead use her staff to push a zombie's arm out of the way to create an opening for one of the other PCs (ie. use Aid Another to hopefully boost the attack chances for someone with a slashing weapon).
