The Closed Eye (DM: Halford, Judge: garyh)

Ignoring their conversation, he says "...maybe should join efforts to locate that control panel " and he fires at the crossbow once more.
[sblock=Actions]
Standard Action - Fires at the crossbow with Sly Flourish(Hits AC18, 11 damage)
Minor Action - Searches(17) for the control panel ( woops, made a mistake. Its actually only 17 for my roll, since I only have +5 in perception and not +9.
Move action - Searches again, if I can
[sblock=Atreus Stats] Atreus D’torian - Human Rogue 1
Passive Perception 15, Passive Insight 16
AC 16, Fort 12, Reflex 17, Will 14

OCC: Just a suggestion: Palindrome and Tander or Palindrome and Atreus can use their next standard action to use aid another, to Atreus/Tander, so we can find that control panel.

“We should call her Adie - she’s just as thick and has at least that many screws loose.”

"On the one hand, I like it, but on the other, Adie was a big dissappointment. The crummiest familiar, ever. She was just a big tease with all of her not suicidally charging the bugbears and leaving for home when I wasn't around to stop her and stuff. Like what that happy fat lady said, 'All mouth and no trousers.'"

"I hate that happy fat lady."

"We should frame her for a horrible crime, beat her near to death, turn her in to the guard for a bounty, and sip champagne and eat hors d'ouevres while they hang her. I bet she wouldn't be so happy then."

"Maybe we should call the fort Adie Plus."

[sblock=Next Round]If the crossbow is down next round, we can just climb over the fort and do the Perception checks.[/sblock]

Round 3, continued

Woe lands another javelin.

Palindrome misses the crossbow with his magic. He searches for the control panel, but realizes that he's just been looking at the same area over and over again.

Tander misses.

Atreus scores another direct hit, disabling this crossbow turret as well.

[sblock=status and init]

spears at G1, undamaged
Crossbow 1, 46 damage, disabled
Crossbow 2, 44 damage, disabled
Woe 40/40 <== You're up
Palindrome 27/27, one failed death save
Tander 29/29
Atreus 20/24
The Fort 84/100

Resources used:
* Tander: surge x5
* Atreus: Surge x4, healing potion
* Palindrome: Surge x6, healing potion
* Woe: Surge x7

map unchanged.

[sblock=The Fort]
The Fort (medium vehicle)
HP: 84/100
Space: 3 squares by 1 square
AC 3; Fort 10, Reflex 3
Speed: 3 less than the slowest creature carrying it, or 4 less if only one creature is carrying it. Always at least one square.
Creature-Drawn: The Fort is carried by one or more of the creatures inside it. Carrying the fort takes both hands for each carrying creature. Moving the fort takes a move action from each creature inside it, and can only be moved during the driver's turn. That is if Woe and Tander are inside the fort, and Woe uses a move action to move it on his turn, then on Tander's turn, Tander is considered to have already used his move action for that round. If Tander declines to use his move action, he does not remain inside the fort. If the driver uses two move actions to move the fort twice, each creature inside must use two move actions to remain inside.
Driver: Whoever's in the front of the Fort. The driver must be carrying the fort, using both hands, or it cannot move.
Load: Three medium creatures, or five medium creatures if they are squeezing (PHB p.292).
Superior Cover: Creatures in the Fort have superior cover against foes the the front, top, or one side of the Fort, and have an additional +2 bonus to AC and reflex.

Peeking out of cover to confirm both turrets are fully inoperative, Woe draws his spear and inspects their surroundings for any further threats.

“Well, the good news is that Fort Adie isn’t in any immediate danger for the moment to reach pincushion-status on the piñata-scale.”

“The bad news is that Tander won’t be salvaging any crossbows here, if he’s planning on threatening anything beyond his own trigger-finger.”

If no immediate dangers present themselves, Woe heads back momentarily to fetch a new barrel.

“How you fellas doing on the spear traps rigged to the stairs? Once we got a clear path to the corner, I’ll tip this one down the next set of stairs to see if there’re any more trigger plates further on.”

The danger gone, Palindrome--eyes shrink-wrapped in tears--studies Fort Adie with a gaze reminiscent of a proud father.

He coughs. Or, rather, he fakes a cough, attempting to stifle a sob, but a tear of joy manages to rappel down the craggy slopes of his all-too-manly cheek.

"I--," he begins, but the words catch in the lump in his throat.

"This is the proudest moment of my life, and...," he swallows hard, "And I'm just happy that I could share it with all of you.

"I love you guys,"
he says, throwing his arms around Atreus, "In a completely heterosexual way."

And then he bawls long and hard, like a histrionic baby girl abandoned upon a life raft of raw emotion adrift in an ocean of catharsis.

---

In time, he pulls himself together, wiping his face with a ragged sniff. He rubs a huge runnel of snot on the wall, climbs over the Mobile Fortress Bunkbed, and attempts to disarm the next spear trap.

Palindrome successfully disarms the spear traps in the landing. Glancing up, he thinks that one of the crossbows from the turrets could be salvaged, with a bit of care.

(G1 is clear. You can retrieve a repeating crossbow and one full magazine from the trap.)

OOC: Sweet! Do you need a skill-check to get that crossbow?

Palindrome does a Perception check at G1 for the -- wait for it! -- control panel. (1d20+4=23) (Hey! Somebody give my boy an assist! We can get a '25' out of it.)

---

When we do another barrel-run, let's pull the fort up to the corner, so we can stand behind cover as the barrel bounces down the stairs.

Atreus looks really out of place and uncomfortable. Just moments ago, the maddest wizard in whole Daunton threw himself at him.
He almost emmediately punches him in the face, thinking logically, that Palindrome would be more likely try to kill him than ever to give him a hug, but Atreus does not want to return to Doddoddod and try to explain why he broke his apprentice nose. Instead he quickly pushes him back towards Woe, hoping to keep him at bay
" ... this must be a very proud moment for you P "

After Palindromes emotional outbreak, he checks his pockets, making sure that nothing is missing.
The rogue searches and finds nothing but gives Palindrome suggestions and ideas where the control panel might be. Atreus gives notice to Tander that they should move the fort up to a corner so that they can get behind cover.
[sblock=Actions]
Standard action : Aid another(succes) to Palindrome (made the error of thinking it was a thievery skill so the total roll is 15, still a succes)
Move action: Helps Tander move the fort back up again
Minor: Makes a perception(12) check to find the control panel ( I know its unnecessary, but did it any way, just because I can)

When Palindrome and Atreus half-way embrace, the merc giggles like a little schoolgirl.

"Aww, you guys..."

(G1 is clear. You can retrieve a repeating crossbow and one full magazine from the trap.)
"Well crossbreed me a gnome with a giant, I may have been a bit hasty! That quirky crossbow there doesn't look too wrecked to salvage!"

Woe sets his barrel down by the corner under the turrets, rigs his spear in place for leverage, and uses both for support to climb up and retrieve the repeating crossbow and any ammunition that will come loose.

"There you go, Tan-Man. Unleash a rain of pokey doom on our foes!"

[Woe takes 10 on Athletics to Climb with the tools at hand and get Tander the pew-pew. Shield and spear back up afterwards]
