The Closed Eye, part II (DM: covaithe, Judge: garyh)

Round 4

Kathalia snaps weakly at the golem as it rampages over her, and Hacker's feeble kick makes him glad it's pretty dark in the cave, and hard to see. Atreus manages to scratch the golem as it passes, but to little effect.

Hacker's penetrating voice rouses Kathalia, restoring some energy. Without standing, she slips back into human form and, calling on the magic of her necklace, clears her eyes back to normal.

Atreus readies himself to fling his magic dagger again, calling instructions to Woe.

Woe's knee impacts the goblin's face sharply, sending teeth and goblin flying to the ground. Though groggy, Woe heroically taunts his much smaller foe. Atreus sends his dagger flying true again, cutting the goblin.

The flesh golem, blood streaming down its massive chests in dirty runnels, howls, "YOU NO SAY MEAN THING! YOU GET SMASH!" Suiting word to deed, he hammers Kathalia into the ground like a recalcitrant tent peg. She drops, senseless and bleeding heavily. Then, with a burst of energy, the golem pounds on Hacker for good measure, sending blood trickling from one ear.

The last remaining zombie turns its jaws on Atreus. Despite having a clear head, the human can't avoid its bite, and loses a chunk of muscle from his forearm.

"Ahhhahahahaha," cackles the goblin from the ground, spitting teeth. "Soon, now! Yes, you'll see. Soon!" He shoves the everburning torch into a thick leather sack lined with fur, completely hiding its light. The tunnel plunges into complete blackness. Many of you hear the goblin's not-quite-suppressed cackling as he crawls away from Woe.

[sblock=ooc]Woe fails his save against dazed. Which is good, since if he'd made it, that could have led to a massive retcon.

Hacker's and Kathalia's OAs miss. Atreus hits for 4 damage.

Hacker uses his second majestic word, bringing K up to 13. She slides SW. The golem is no longer Hacker's prey, nor does it have -2 to hit from Hacker. Hacker doesn't save.

Kathalia shifts back to human form. She uses her amulet to turn failure into success for her save vs. blindness, but is still dazed and prone. The golem's -2 penalty to attack rolls expires.

Atreus readies an attack. He saves vs. dazed.

Woe charges the goblin, hitting it for 5 and knocking it prone and marking it. Atreus' readied attack fires. It hits, but the prone condition only grants CA for melee attacks, so no sneak attack damage. Still 11 damage, though. Woe's mark expires from the golem. He doesn't save vs. dazed.

Flesh golem hits Kathalia twice, 25 and 29 vs. AC for 22 total damage. She's dying again, and still dazed. It -- he, apparently -- uses an AP to attack Hacker, hitting once (22 vs. AC) for 9 damage. Hacker is bloodied. And of course, I forgot CA again, so all the rolls should be +2 higher; outcome unchanged though.

The zombie steps up to Atreus and bites at him, 17 vs. AC hits exactly for 4 damage.

The goblin puts the torch into a pouch (move action). It sustains the vexing cloud (minor), and it crawls... somewhere, but makes a lot of noise doing it. Stealth check 12; those with 12 passive perception know that it's in I21. It's complete darkness in the cave now; everyone has total concealment from everyone else. Unless, you know, someone happens to have darkvision. :angel: The map represents last known positions.

[sblock=Plan]Wow. This is going to sound like a broken record, but it never ceases to amaze me just how screwed we can get. :confused:

Darkness + Cloud = -7 to attacks. And Kathalia is just out of range for an Inspiring Word.

I would strongly recommend we all delay until after Atreus. Since he's not dazed, he can whip out a new sunrod and still have action to spare. That way, the rest of us can take our single puny action and see what we're doing.[/sblock]

Atreus doesn't hesitate to snatch a sunrod from his belt and light it. Noticing that both Hacker and Kathalia are in trouble, he fearlessly moves to distract the golem, ignoring the danger of getting smashed by both the zombie and golems massive hands " I will try to keep the golem busy " he says as he passes Hacker.
Suddenly his black dagger flies out of his hand with a swirl, striking the golems eyes, temporary blinding it. And then as the dagger returns, he perfectly strikes it again and the golem is forced away in pain from Atreus' black dagger.
[sblock=Actions]
Minor Action: Takes a sunrod out
Move Action: Moves to flank the golem with hacker, Provokes opp from zombie and golem ( Got 20 AC against opp attacks)
Standard Action: Uses Blinding Barrage against Golem: Hit AC 19 (without any penalties or bonuses) and does 9 damage + sneak attack damage 14, Total 23 damage. Note; Blinding barrage is a close blast 3 attack and the golem is blinded until the end of Atreus' next turn.
Actionpoint: Attacks golem with Positioning strike. Hits Will 30 and does 10 damage. Slides the golem 3 sq's away from the group and out of his reach(west). With the hit, he uses his daggers daily power, and inflicts ongoing 5 damage, the golem gets -2 to his saving throws to negate this effect.

One of the golem's flailing arms catches Atreus a heavy blow as he passes, staggering him.

[sblock=ooc]I'd better roll that OA: 22 vs. AC hits for 8 damage, and Atreus is dazed (se). :(

I think that means you can't take both attacks; you'll have to spend your AP to get one of them off. Which one?

[sblock=OOC]
I take the first one, with blinding barrage. Is it okay I activate my deathstalker daggers power with that attack?

Save vs daze: fails

As Atreus recklessly dashes behind the flesh golem, the zombie takes a chunk out of his backside, chewing vigorously.

Atreus, dizzied, somehow finds the strength to keep moving and flank the golem. His dagger flies true, running blood into the thing's eyes. It roars in frustration. "NOT BED-TIME! IS SMASH-TIME!" Putting action to words, one of its angry fists finds Hacker's jawbone, nearly shattering it.

[sblock=mini-update]Atreus provokes from the zombie as well, which hits AC 22 for 4 damage. Atreus continues his move and ends up flanking the golem. In E9, I take it?

The bad news is that while dazed, Atreus can't flank, so can't get CA or sneak attack. The good news is that since it's a close attack, it ignores concealment (which, from vexing cloud, would have made it miss by 1). So, 9 damage, and the golem is blinded TENT Atreus.

It uses berserk attack as an immediate reaction, hitting Hacker with AC 21 for 10 damage despite being blinded, and despite me forgetting CA again.

I have Atreus and Hacker both at 6 HP, yes?

[sblock=OOC]
Well, I am 6 hp :(

Hey guys, I hate to say this but maybe we should escape. I don't think we can win this fight.

To Covaithe: I was thinking about that overhaul I suggested. What do you think if Atreus changed his class to Assassin. Would you be interested in working that into the game? And what do you think about it? The race change is a minor issue so the important thing for me is to change my class.
So far nothing is conclusive since nobody has voted just yet and as always I have no idea if we survive this battle, but I was hoping you could help me out a little with my overhaul. If you are not interested that's okay, I just really want to change class with Atreus.

[sblock=Clueless]I'm at a loss of what to do.

If Woe doesn't charge the goblin it'll probably get away, but that insane golem seems like it can splatter the rest of the team pretty quickly. Everybody's dazed, everybody's beaten' up. You guys still have your Second Winds, though.

Woe is out of range for charging the golem or healing anybody. Suggestions?[/sblock]
