D&D General The Crab Bucket Fallacy

If I want the concept of a high powered psychic from non-D&D fiction I'm going to say outright that I am far better served in 5e than in any previous edition. It's not even close.
Well... sure. If you want to talk about power, full-caster is where 5e provides it.
If I had the amount of love, care, and similarity to the predecessor class for the warlord that the psion gets in the aberrant mind I'd be ecstatic. Give me your minimum baselines for a psion please?
So if it were a Bard sub-class, for instance?
It's like if the sorcerer was never published but people said the Eldritch Knight, Arcane Trickster, and Fiendlock were okay.
Or take a wizard with the entertainer background for a bard.
Oh, not far enough... Bard could be an AT with the Entertainer background, a wizard would be an AT with the Sage background.

That it's not spells, really. That the Aberrant and GOO are passing as Psion, when they are just another caster is my problem.

If I give a Fighter subclass the following.

Stand and Fight!
As Healing Word proficiency/per day.

That's going to cover your minimum?

In looking over a ton of these lists, here is my impression of the average consensus among them. This is anecdotal! Also, it is not my personal ranking.

S: Paladin - at or near the top of more lists than any other class.

A: Wizard, Fighter, Bard, Warlock, Cleric - all of these are usually in the top or middle tiers

B: Rogue, Barbarian, Sorcerer - these three really move around depending on the list - you will sometimes find barbarian at the top, and sometimes at the bottom, for example.

C: Ranger, Druid, Artificer - almost always middle to lower tier

D: Monk - almost always bottom tier, and ranked last more often than any other class, by far

That would indeed be preferable. Sorcerer is superfluous as now everyone has neo-Vancian casting and the warlock chassis fits the concept better. So please, get rid of the sorcerer and broaden the warlock to cover sorcerer fluff. (I already did this for my own game.)
