*Rinaldo holds his readied action. Hogarth stows his shield and draws his wand. Tenebrynn casts Shield and this time....it works!*

(OOC: Vanitri and Ashnar still have a go)

*Ashnar moves around, although it isn't obvious if there is a position less open to attack, and he readies an attack with his new wand.*

(OOC: Okay the monster descriptions state that characters can be caught flat-footed by the reappearing monsters attacking, so the way I'll handle the readied actions is that, unlike normal readied actions which always go first, these go either before or after based on if you were caught flat-footed. Either way, I'll definitely give you your readied actions)

*Suddenly, the eight creatures flash back into being, located directly adjacent to Ashnar, Tenebrynn, Vanitri, and Rinaldo, though well within reach of Hogarth. Tenebrynn, Vanitri, and Rinaldo are quick on the uptake, but Ashnar and Hogarth are left flat-footed. The creatures attack with their vicious triple bites, once again ignoring Laynie as if she wasn't there and focusing two attacks on each of the injured, with the remaining four spread between Hogarth, Vanitri, and Ashnar.*

*Before that can happen, however, Vanitri and Ashnar make their own attacks. Vanitri can't flank the enemy for a Sneak Attack, but he still knows exactly where to strike. Eerily, the creature seems to know exactly where he is going to strike too, and it appears extremely unhappy just before Vanitri's blow strikes, twisting and dodging and defending the exact point where Vanitri was going to strike but still not enough to stop him from spilling vitals. Still, it isn't quite enough to down it. One of the others looks at the injury of its ally and is extraordinarily unhappy about this.*

*Ashnar fires his ray fairly well, but his target knows exactly where to zig and where to zag to completely ignore the attack, beginning its motion before Ashnar even finishes his spell.*

*Due to intelligent clustering, the party managed to make flanking impossible for the creatures, so Tenebrynn avoids attacks, his force shield swivelling to block as his mithral armour deflects another blow and Rinaldo manages to duck and roll under the attacks, but the others are not so lucky, each taking a nasty blow.*

*Meanwhile, Rinaldo finally gets off his own attack, taking a stab with his rapier, but the creature twists out of the way before the blow is even halfway finished, and Rinaldo lacks the strength to follow-through and continue the impale (Weapon Finesse would have helped though).*

*Just as suddenly, all the creatures vanish.*

(OOC: Hogarth takes 17 Damage
Vanitri takes 16 Damage and avoids a critical
Ashnar takes 14 Damage

Vanitri crits for 18 Damage to TM2!

Tenebrynn and Hogarth's Turn, followed by delayers)

(OOC: I'm going to allow Hogarth to use his own Cure spells rather than the wand if he prefers--that will give 12 instead of 8 for Tenebrynn, for instance)

Vanitri will ready another attack, this time, hoping to set himself up to step into a flank. "Laynie, what are these? Do you know?"

"Uhh, bad kitties?" Laynie offers.

*Vanitri has plenty of time to move around, though he has no certainty of where the enemies will appear. Still he can step far enough to fit some enemies in between himself and the others and hope for a 5-foot flank.*

(wand charges used: 1)

"Argh!" Ashnar feels almost as if bitten in half by the monster. "Seems they have some sort of foresight." he tersely relays his observation. He also takes note of the girls 'kitties' comparison, which makes him wonder about her 'dog,' but this certainly isn't the time for such questions. The better question would be why the creatures ignore such an easy target as the girl...

(Battlefield question: How clustered up have these creatures been up to now? Could a fireball cover a cluster without catching allies within?)
