The Cult of the Red Hand

Ethan Masters - Detective

OOC: I realised I would be in charge but was trying to get the most senior person on site (other than I) to attend me, I mean I haven't identified my self to anyone at the CS at this stage so I thought I might rip a new bunghole for the bloke in charge for letting me get this close to the body without identification ;)

"Dr Lester" Ethan says as he looks up from the body "so what can you tell me about this? First impressions? TOD? Cause? Anything you can give me as a start would be appreciated Dr" Ethan stands and steps away from the body, he pulls the collar of his jacket up close around his neck and plunges his hands deep into his Armani trench coats pockets to help fight off some of the effects of the cold air, grimacing he slowly casts an eye over the crime scene.

“Well, from what we’ve seen right now, we don’t know much. Time of death will have to be determined later, but right now, we’re thinking of somewhere around six hours ago. We can’t find any obvious cause of death, but the autopsy will determine that. If it’s the same as the others, then he’ll end up Unknown, anyway. At first impression, we can’t determine much. Preliminary examination shows he had no trauma other than the burned mark in the center of his chest. If I’m right, that shouldn’t have killed him. It could have hurt, but it shouldn’t be deadly. We found a wallet. His name is John Groggins. His medical records at the hospital say he has no history of any past diseases. No heart condition, no respiratory, nothing worse than a cold. He had a checkup two months ago. Everything was alright. What do you think?”

OOC: It’s 10 AM. It’s not nighttime. Oh, and if you want to make a specific check, just tell me.

Hmmm... "Damn must be the machine. Listen Ralph, I'm working on something that you may find interesting. I'm leaving for New York right now, I should be in town this evening. Call my cell when you get this message." Hanging up the phone, I grab my overnight bag and a couple of pertinent books Great Blessings of Wepwawet, The Forgotten Philosophers of the Old Kingdom and Legends, Lies & Cherished Myths of World History. I check my watch, 10 AM, should be there by 4 PM, depending on traffic (OOC: approx 6 hour drive to NY) I make sure everything is locked up and the security system is active before jumping into my jeep and heading out of town. While enroute I confirm that the NYPD has taken care of my accomodations.

OOC: I don't expect the NYPD to pay for the room (though that would be appreciated) but I would expect that as a consultant, they'd at least make the arrangements for me.

"Ok then Doctor, thanks, get him down to the morgue and let me know as soon as you've finished with him. Oh and I'll take his wallet thanks" Ethan continues to study the scene, walking around the crime scene in an ever expanding circle. Once he feels he has covered enough area he stops and pulls on some thin gloves, he then proiceeds to carefully examine the dead man's wallet.

OOC: Search check +5 on crime scene and wallet, taking 20 on the crime scene. Are there any witnesses standing around??

You look around the CS, trying to find something, anything. Just when you’re about to give up, you notice something around the victim. From the position he is lying, you can tell that he was probably thrown backwards by a huge force. Contrary to what should happen, there are no marks of anything that could pack such a strong blow. However, there is a small, blackened area on the ground. You kneel to inspect it, and you find that it looks as if a small explosion occurred there. What could have caused that?

OOC: This should have been a Knowledge: Criminology check, but whatever.

OOC: There are no witnesses. The body was found by a neighbor, and he claims to have simply gone to take out the trash when he found the body in the alleyway. He called the police immediately.

Oh, and the wallet contains a few dollar bills, the I.D., a driver’s license, and a library card.

Ralph, just getting in from being out of town, listens to his messages. After a couple of minutes he picks up the telephone and dials Bill's cell. "Bill, Ralph here, I know it is dark thirty, but I just got your message and am checking in with you. I am about ready to go to bed, so give me a ring later. If am awake when you call., I'll pick up the phone, if not leave me a message with the details of what is going down." Ralphs clicks off the the receiver and heads to his room. He putson his pajamas and crawls in bed, hoping that the night will allow him peaceful and recuperative sleep.

You're sitting in a large, black van with the letters FBI painted in white on the back. You're reviewing the case file that your section chief gave you. You're to take charge of an operation involving three murdered priests. God, you think, can't they do it themselves?

You get to the crime scene, and you're led to Detective Ethan Masters. "Detective Masters? My name is Agent Valentine. I'm here from the FBI to assist your investigation."

Ralph has been up for quite a while. He just got done eating his spaghetti dinner. He grabs his cordless phone and moseys over to the couch. He turns on the TV and to his suprise, his favorite TV show, The Outer Limits, comes on the air. "Ahh. Love this show. I hope Bill calls me soon." Ralph grabs a handful of popcorn and enjoys the evening.

"Assist" Ethan hisses "yeah sure, just like the FBI to offer assistance, and then muscle the locals out of the picture and claim all the glory. Why you boys interested in this one then?" Ethan asks, his hands resting lightly upon his hips.
