The Cursed Ones

Mirnx sits close to the fire, absorbing the heat and enjoying the relative darkness of the evening. He is withdrawn from everyone staring intently into the flames. At one time he leans so far in his skin begins to turn deep red from the heat. If anything Mirnx seems to enjoy this more than feel its pain.

Krkt eats his dinner and then stations himself for watch.

OOG: If no one made the trip besides us and Fez, who is serving dinner? Fez?

Dust flies into the air as Justiel lands Master Fez, Why are we alone in this journey? I understand that you wish us to investigate the disappearance of these students but is that the only reason? Was the guarding of your cargo a ruse? Justiel sits down on a log spreading his wings out to either side of him I would like to hear everything that you know of the disappearances and what this Homeglen is. What are they teaching the students?

The drovers who were driving the wagons seemed to fade into nothingness as you stopped for the night. Then you notice that Fez summons what appears to be a matronly gnome who goes about cooking and cleaning.

"I asked you all to come because I have yet to figure out how to give them a personality."

Fez smiles and opens up a barrel and fills up his mug which seems to stay full while he tells you all he know of Homeglen.

"This is what my nephew has told me via his letters

Town of HomeGlen

Founded by 6 retiring adventures
a halfling acrobat
A human archer
an elven swordswoman - paladin
A dwarven cleric
A half Elven wizard
a gnomish giant killer

The Strangers Inn
Two Story Building with 40 guest rooms, no two of which are alike. The dwarven cleric founded this as well as the training facility adjacent to it.

The Everything and then some Store
Opened by the Halfling, this general store houses everything mundane as well as magical.

Stabbles and Blacksmiths
The human Archer was good with tempering animals as well as steel. You can find just about anything made of metal from chairs to hair combs to nails to swords.

The Library
The library is the largest privately held library in this part of the world. The wizard so loved anything he could find, you could likely find childrens books to books on planar convergance theory.

The 5 bones
The gnome had a liking for gambling as well as fun so he opened this tavern. He arranged with the mage to get some programmed illusions to perform plays on his stage. The plays are secondary for most folks because they come for the ale not the entertainment.

Sir L'O'gan Master Herbalist Shop
Madam Reese's Mystic Sight and Wares Emporium

The City council act as the jury at all trials the mayor acts as judge.

The sheriff is an elected position every five years

the mayor is appointed for life

The city buildings are open to anyone to watch city business and trials

The council members are made up of the landowners and merchants in the town

The founders of the town traveled together for almost ten years. They gained fame and notoriety as any group. they decided to setup shop here and retire. However not everyone was happy to just retire. The Elven Paladin did not stay, several rumors and unfounded sayings exist as to why the elfmaid left and to were she went, the most fanciful of whaich was she went to Salineth to aid in the protection of our world while they opened the gateways, another is a story about her leading a group of adventurers in a raid on Eldergarde. The only thing known for is there are five graves outside the city marking were the founders are buried not six.

The archer settled down and started a family and then all of a sudden the group started dying, one by one. The dwarf was the last to die but it was 5 or 6 years after they retired. Unfortunately the archer is the only one who had a chance to have a family, he died when he was 34. Every male child since has died at around the age of 33. Early on it was thought that the more kids the better the chances so now the archer family is the largest part of the city and own right and title to all 5 buildings built by the founders.

The city is built on some of the richest and most fertile land around. The land is split between growing Kaffe and Tabac both of which are exported as far away as Balder's Gate. The mine is a cornucopia of minerals, when they first started digging in the mine, which was found abandoned shortly after the adventurers retired here, they found salt, then they started digging another way and found coal, then in even another direction they found iron ore.

It is quite obvious if the adventurers had not settled here by chance then someone else would have on purpose.

The town is mostly self sufficient the only real things brought into town is the money for the excess trade goods. There is always work to be had on trading caravans, and they always pay well at 2 gold per day per person.

The inn is an unusaul type of inn. You walk in there is no tavern no place to eat it is just a place to get a room to sleep in. There are 40 rooms and most of these are taken up by would be adventurers at the training facility next door. The Inn is currently run by the Mayors wife who oversees it like the people in it were just extensions of her own family.

The Training Facility
This place is speculated to originally have been built so the dwarf would not lose his edge. In later years it was opened up to outsiders for training purposes, and a trainer was brought in almost 90 years ago to actually maintain the place and actually teach people. The teacher is very intersting to say the least, an adventurer of some renown were he from.

Teddy Flinktersnoot was a member of the guard of his home but wanderlust overtook him and adventure was in his eye. He went with a group and barely made it back alive and he went again with another group and barely made it back alive but he ended up on the opposite side of the world as well. He came upon HomeGlen and found the training facility and offered his services as teacher so what happened to him and his groups never need happen again."

As Fez finishes talking you notice that he is almost to the point of slurring his words.

Maur listens to the stories around the fires. He sits pretty close to Fez.

Maur pours himself some of the gnome wine without even asking and continues to listen to everyone. While he is listening he contimplates what he will do once his services to Fez are done.

Everytime Maur's glass is empty, he fills it with more ale.

Lathered and on trembling legs, exhausted to near the point of collapse, Seres' horse comes to a halt. Jumping off the unfortunate creature (and after tying it to the side of the cart and giving it some water and fodder) Seres walks up to the fire and sits down. His familiar, a tiny toad, crawls out of a pocket to feed on the insects gathering around the fire.
Seres seems absentminded as the Gnome tells his story, he eats and drinks only a little. When the Gnome is finished he sits quiet for a while then asks in a low voice;

What of their enemies? A group like that would have made many. Do you know of anybody who would have a reason to hurt the town?
And what about you? You are powerful, but power always comes with a price. You have adventured a lot, I'd bet. You have made enemies, no? And you are connected to Homeglen. Could some action of yours have brought these foes down on the town?

He leans back against his saddlebags, staring, with heavy eyelids, into the fire and the small dark shape outlined by the flames.

You aren't the only one of us playing with fire, little Swirfneblin

He smiles.

Cara sits just inside the campfire light while her animal companions roam outside of it. Trying not to look directly into the fire she listens intently to Fez’s story.

“Very unusual, the men dieing before they reach the age of 34. There is obviously some sort of curse on the residence of the town. Perhaps something or someone tracked them down from their adventures for revenge. And this Elvin Paladin, what of her? Where has she been all these years? I guess we will soon find out what is going on!”

"The only...thing I know...about the towns...enemies, is nothing external cause they take everyone at the training facility. <Hic> But I pissed off the Red Wizards <hehe> a long time ago <he>. Oh and one other..."

With this last, Fez falls over passed out.

Maur notices the gnomes drunken stuper and states, "thats the only gnome i know that cant hold his own wine!" He laughs hardily.

Maur takes Fez's glass away from him, finishes it off, and sets it beside him on the opposite side of Fez.
