The Dance of Souls

"Well, why did you say we were going after Ogres, then? If you want me along, I'll come. I don't want to cramp your style"

"Some folks should stay with Jasper, anyway, don't you think? Perhaps only a small, stealthy group should go. Heaven only knows how many monsters there could be with tracks that look like wolves, so I'll provide Gur with some backup."

Rose Marie looks off in the direction indicated for the tracks, and frowns. "I hate the idea of leaving a hurt animal un-treated. I'd like to go, too, but I don't want to leave Jasper alone, either...." She frowns, torn between two desires.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, every time you say it I hear the DM making a dice roll and chuckling evilly. :D
(Trust me, I don' chuckle... Mwahaha :] Since I'm assuming Gur doesn't want the whole group to follow him, I think that Rose Marie, Sam and Beamer would likely stay on the road with Jasper.)

Gur, Banion and Azaroth set out to follow the tracks, while Beamer, Rose Marie and Sam continue to follow the road. A few times Gur thinks he lost the tracks in the soft ground, but can find them again (Survival roll 12). The tracks lead into a region with abundant bushes, and at some point, the tracks split up, with some possibly going back, and the rest, continuing southwards.

Gur and Azaroth:
[sblock]You can hear growling sounds from behind you, but, there doesn't seem much energy behind the growl. Also, something small seems to be moving towards you through the bushes.[/sblock]

Somewhat quietly, but louder than a whisper, Gur says, "If it's going to attack, let it go for me."

Gur takes a bit of spit and gives it a good long ranged shot to his side to check the winds direction before he turns around, slowly. Gur considers that he may have put the group in the direction of the wind, giving away their scent.

Banion Lorish, Halfling Soulknife

At Gur's words, Banion stops moving, except to scan around carefully looking for the threat.

Gur determines that a soft wind comes from the north, which may have been enough to carry a scent to the creatures.

By now, three small and thin wild dogs emerge from the bushes to the north, and you can alse hear movement from the south.
The wild dogs are smaller than wolves, with reddish-brown fur. Patches of the fur are missing, revealing scars. So far, they make no move to attack, as if unsure about your feasability as prey.

Gur (Knowledge (nature):

It appears that the wild dogs had trouble defending their food against larger predators, propably canines as well. They are hungry, and while they are aware that humans aren't good prey normally, seem desperate enough to try.

Banion waits to see if Gur can resolve this matter without violence, but keeps his sling close at hand. Keeping in mind Gurs orders, he tries to remain hidden. While knowing that the dogs will likely pick up his scent, they may prefer the more obvious target that Gur represents.

ooc: Travelling tomorrow. If I drop out of contact, Banion prefers ranged combat and will try to use his sling from about 30 feet away, to take advantage of his point blank shot feet. If pressed, he will materialize his mindblade (move action, no AOO) and engage in melee. Also, as he doesn't yet have precise shot, he will prioritize targets not yet in melee when using the sling.

I should be posting as normal for a while yet, though.

Gur takes two of the trail rations, rips them from their bindings, and puts them in front of himself before taking a few steps back. He speaks firmly to his companions when he says, "Food must be scarce. Winter must be coming soon. They are lean from starvation, so they are probably not too strong. If they have any pups though, I doubt they'll make it through winter."

Wild Empathy +2, with hopefully a circumstance modifier for the above.
