Even before Gur can complete his sentence, Banion stabs at the retreating spider, luckily piercing its chitinous exoskeleton, and the creature drops twitchingly like the others before it.

With the last of the spiders fallen and unconcious, all is calm.

 

[Patlin]

"Let it go. It's learned a lesson, and I'd rather it go tell the other spiders so they don't go off attacking travelers again."

"Oh. Oops. I didn't know that spiders, um, spoke with one another."

Banion gathers up his dropped sling, allowing his mindknife to fade as he picks it up.

 

[Creamsteak]

"Well, I just assumed that they do. I wonder how one goes about figuring that out? I just figured that mommy and daddy spider would teach baby spider..."

Gur then starts thinking about the horrors of the masses of spider eggs that hatch at once...

Gur shrugs and then continues, "Let's just get on the road then."

 

[Rose Marie Lightstar]

Rose Marie watches for any sign of any more spiders for a moment or two, then turns her attention to settling down Jasper. Once he's calm, she nods to the others that she's ready to move on.

Sam makes a note to research as much as he can about spider communication when this is over.

Gur with your knowledge, is it common for these type of spiders to attack groups like this?

[sblock]Hunting spiders, like those that attacked you, typically hunt prey not much larger than themselves. Banion, Beamer, and Rose Marie would fit into that category. It is certainly possible that a group of spiders might try to tackle larger prey.[/sblock]

Gur tries to explain, "Well, obviously they were offended because we look like giants to them. Giant walking meat bags. Giant walking meat bags carrying food and water with them. Now, if we were spiders and we saw giant walking meat bags with food and water, we would go after them right? I can only assume as much, since the spiders came after us."

 

[Patlin]

"Maybe we've educated them to think of us as 'Giant walking meat bags with hurtfull pointy bits.'" Banion suggests, looking over the dead spiders. "Shall we move on?"
