The Dance of Souls

We will keep the horses with us and continue on as described, attempting to remain out of sight and away from any well worn paths.

"This madness that Taras' group suffered may be some sort of attack, rather than any sort of aura. If so, the best way to survive it is to avoid letting the enemy know we ar even nearby."

I suppose that is a possibility Banion, but I am sure that the keep wouldn't get the name if only the main path was covered. Surely people would've been wise enough to attempt an alternative route before. However I suppose there is some baring to the fact that the Keep even got the name, that would suggest that whatever happens some have survived like Taras, and spread the stories.

Regardless we have come too far to turn around now, attempting the main path seems like suicide, we might as well do as you planned, but I feel it is neccessary to express my discomfort with traversing such narrow paths.

"Maybe fear of going mad is what drove them all mad," Beamer says with a wry smile. "We'll be ok though as long as we stick together. Perhaps the Keep works only serves to heighten animosities that are already present, as was the case with Taras's companions. I expect there are no quarrels between us, though if there are you should speak up now so they can be resolved peacefully."

Beamer does his best to guide his pony as it picks its way through the rough terrain. His success is limited by the fact that he has absolutely no idea what he is doing.

OOC: Looks like we have a course of action. Sorry if anyone was waiting for me.

Slowly, you advance less obvious paths where possible, trying to stay clear of the main path. However, unless you are willing to perform some big climb checks with your mounts, overland travel tends to be limited. You hardly realize how fast the day goes by, and soon, night falls again.

(same procedure as last night?)

Agreed.

"Hard to believe there's no back way up. Do you magic types have any way to get us an aerial view, in order to look for an alternate path?"

I do not unfortunately, but Taras said he was about two days out from the keep when tragedy struck so we are halfway there. We can base our estimates off that. We'll just have to keep an eye out for paths otherwise.

OOC: No problems with doing the same plan here.

"Failing a familliar or some other magical remedy, our only hope of avoiding the road would be to find som other navigable route, whether or not the horses can traverse it. That means either Gur or I should scout ahead."

(ooc: And as Gur is being NPC's at the moment, that probably means me.)

"Wait here, I'll be back in about an hour."

Advancing stealthilly, Banion disapears into the underbrush (taking 10 on hide and move silently) advancing up into the hill country. Making note of his surroundings while he goes, he tries to find some high ground from which to look back down for possible routes.

If aproaching any sort of ridge line, he will crawl on his belly so as to avoid being seen.

"I don't really like splitting up, but it is better than walking straight up to the Keep I suppose." Beamer find the best hiding spot available to wait for Banion's return. He loads his crossbow and makes sure his spell component pouch and scroll cases are handy. "Hopefully a combination of luck, stealth, and if needed an illusion spell with keep this from being necessary. Be careful, Banion. Azaroth, perhaps you could send your weasel with him so we will know if he gets in trouble."
