The Dance of Souls

(FYI - "Insta-kill" by 20-20-confirm is, as far as I recall, an optional rule. While I have benefitted from it in the past (without announcement that the rule is used), I don't use it. It's possible other DMs do, but don't count on it.)
Azaroth's blade slices down the cleric with surpringing ease, and he falls to the ground, unconcious.
Beamer's bolt ricochet's off of Cado's armor, and Banion finds he sees too little to effectively hit her at the current angle (miss due to cover). Gur brings his quarterstaff to bear, finally, and the woman seems close to collapse (5 damage).

Cado returns the favor, dealing 4 damage.

(no map update - with one enemy remaining, that appears unnecessary)

ooc: Oh heh I see. thats no problem. I figured I might as well go the whole way in the event that you would use that rule.

perhaps overzealous due to the power of the hit prior. 1d20+2=11 Azaroth attempts to put too much power behind the blow to hit Cado as a result he fumbles slightly. <not sure wheter thats a hit or miss. Though I am guessing a miss.>

in the event it hits: 1d6+2=5 damage

Azaroth, Beamer, and Banion (NPC'd) fail to hit the well-armored Cado. Gur does hit, however, his quarterstaff devastating the warrior, who, despite her many wounds, remains standing... barely. Her counterattack glances off of Gur's armor.

After Azaroth misses, Beamer manages to hit Cado with an acid splash, burning into the warrior's many wounds, dripping down to form a small puddle. Cado yells from the pain... then drops. It is silent. Banion keeps his mindblade ready, but no other threats manifest. The fight is over.

Perhaps we should try to stabalize Cado and interrogate her. She may be able to inform us more to whats going on while we rest for Beamer and my spells to return. If not, we might have a barganing chip depending on what she means to our adversaries.

as Azaroth says the above he picks up the Talon shaped item and holds it in his hands.

He'll cast detect magic on it. With his view no longer obstructed is the aura given off by the trinket any different? Clearer perhaps?

"Whew! Finally. She was a tough one. Sounds like a good idea, Azaroth. I don't have any skill with healing, though." Beamer will let someone else try to stablize her.

Beamer takes several moments to catch his breath, hoping his strength will return. Once the ray of enfeeblement wears off, he goes down to the wagon and fallen enemies. "Let's sort out anything magical." He casts detect magic (lasts 2 minutes), and begins piling up everything magic off to one side of the road. If anyone comes to help, he will point out which objects are magical. If he has time, he double checks back over everything to make sure nothing was missed. He also looks over the bodies more carefully, what races are they?
