The Deadliest Archer of Them All

Aw crud. Are you guys saying Silver Marches actually has some cool crunchy bits to it? Damn, and here I thought I had finally found a WOTC product I didn't want to buy...

I don' t know how helpful this will be for the "which is the best archer" discussion, but I am asking it here because the archer experts here will be in the best position to answer.

Assuming you are playing in the Kalamar campaign, does the new ammunition equipment section in the KOK Player's Guide change the perspective on which archer class is best?

For those who do not have it, I am referring in particular to the Tiger Claw arrow, which does slashing damage, and has a crit range of 19-20/x2. Would this materially change, for example, the Deepwood Sniper's damage calculations?

Well, you're right. I did buy Hero Builder's Guide (a mistake, made early in the 3e publications binge). I skipped E&A. Both are non-crunchy.

But doesn't Enemies and Allies have my favorite weapon enchantment?

Wrathful Healing.

I believe it's a +3 enchantment that allows you to heal an amount equal to half the amount of damage you inflict... Finally those loin cloth wearing, rage their AC down to 8 barbarians have a weapon that'll let them keep tickin in a melee free for all. :)

PS - I think somewhere up there I have at least ONE on topic post. <blushes>

Has anyone checked out Sovereign Stone Campaign Setting? They have an Archer core class that would make decent contributions to PrC's.

Also Quentissential Fighter has a Master Bowman class that also has a few decent abilities. You have to be +12 BAB to get into the PrC though.

AEG has books called War & Merenaries that have great core classes and feats that really make threatening archers. Like improved ranged sneak attacks, Cleave type archery feats, auto critical feats, feats that add your Dex to damage also

Legend&Lairs has a book called Path of the Sword that also contibutes to Archers I think they (or AEG's 2 books above) have a Sharpshooter PrC.

But all in all shooting at long ranges and having endless supplies of magic arrows and improved Attack bonuses, coupled with increased threat range and critical multipliers are a must for anyone with an archer hopeful.

Cleave type archery feats

I tried to think of a good way to have an Archery Cleave feat to emulate Legolas' one-arrow-through-two-guys trick, but had a hard time coming up with how you would determine when you could use it. It isn't much good if your opponents aren't single file.

Right, so you need to have that restriction in the feat. Sure, it really limits the feat, but I think it fills an important nicht.

Incidentaly, I do believe that there is a feat that does that in War.

Using the battle grid system would make it easier. This would also put good use to Spring Attack, manovering so that you line up the enemy for your self.

You could also do something like stringing two arrows or more at once, a classic bow manuever. Treat it like Shuriken, the extra arrows are only along for the ride, so no sneak attack or bonus damage. Each different target you shoot at would be a cumulative -2 penalty.

Of course, between this and Many Shot, someone really needs to stat Hank's bow.:D

Aren't you describing exactly what manyshot does?

Oh, and my favorite archer is indeed a cleric with the Elf and Time domains (Labelas Enoreth, from FR, offers both of these). This character will be able to match any non-epic DR using greater magic weapon (and hopefully can come up with an epic spell or two that accomplishes the same at epic levels), and has the usual spells and turning ability of a straight cleric to boot! Unbeatable, IMHO...
