The DICE GODS
by Jay Hafner
The dice gods, although long-forgotten, now have enough worshippers to grant spells (and thus give the holies' a reason to worship them)!
In all their glory:
Coinus Flippus
- The talking head; the flipping tail. The decider. The creator. The Odd Alpha to Even Omega.
- Dogma: must be called in the air; priests are often seen doing flips during worship events;
- Sins: though shalt not call incorrectly at gladiatorial events
- Domains: (only two) : Divination/Knowlege and Fate
Trihedros
- The null goddess; goddess of the punch; the split personality of Hexahedros;
- Dogma: The worshippers feel that Trihedros is the most possible thing in the universe because of the existence of Coinus Flippus and feel that Coinus Flippus is actually an offspring of Trihedros because of the rounded and infinite edge, granting a third-side to Coinus Flippus when the moon is full.
- Sins: Though shalt not utilize Dodecahedros or Triacontahedros divisible to determine the Dogma of the null goddess and that if Hexahedros is invoked during ceremonies of the goddess of the punch that it shall be pre-ordaned whether Hexahedros is divided or susequently counted at 4-6 to determine the status of the goddess.
Domains: Retribution, Strength, Tyranny
Tetrahedros
- Demigod of D4's; lord of the dagger; patron to those who are 'always the first to die;' the caltrop for the barefoot walker in the dark
- Dogma: Tetrahedros defends itself from all takers. It is the eye of the illuminati. It is all powerful.
- Sins: To ever let Tetrahedros reach the floor; to attempt to spin tetrahedros brings great ruin upon all who attempt it.
- Domains: Suffering, Magic, Rune
Pentahedros
- Quasi-deity of D5's; the mysterious die; the mistress of dice;
- Dogma: Pentahedros is the mistress of dice. She wears the pants in the dice family, and is thus ignored, making her angry. When the bones fall ill as they may, she is invoked to set things right.
- Sins: To discuss Pentahedros causes ugliness, dorkiness, and the inability to court.
- Domains: Mentalism, Fertility, Time
Hexahedros
- Greater god of d6's, lord of the 18 strength, master of the tribe of Yaht-zee
- Dogma: Hexahedros dogma is widely varied from one region to another. In some regions and societies 3 d6 are rolled, in some five are rolled. It is dogma that the d6 is the first to be shown to a newbie to the comers of the cult of the Dice as they are most aware of this cult, but only subconconsciously.
- Sins: Although d6 is dura, throwing any d6 will bring the worst wrath of the cult of the Yaht-zee (little people that hide in the pips of dice that pull their populations towards the most unfavorable outcome and thus cursing your dice).
- Domains: Luck, Travel, Trade
Octahedros
- Intermediate god of d8's; lord of the longsword; the planes of the opposite pyramids; the God of Danger and Wounding; the war-god; The 8 armed devil. The evil die. The other end of the die of course is it's healing end.
- Dogma: The d8 is often invoked simultaneously with a d20 by those astute in the rolls of chance. Fools will roll them seperately and denote novices in the cult of the Oct's.
- Sins: to ever question that the sides of a d8 are nothing more than two of tetrahedros holy symbol. It means utter destruction upon one's character and 'character.' Death comes soon to the 'characters' of those who utter this blasphemy!
- Domains: Metal, War, Hatred, Healing
Decahedros
- Intermediate god of d10's; The Crazy Die!; married to Shedecahedros - lady of 10's to produce offspring of the dpercentile children; couple of the 100 children
- Dogma: Decahedros is know for looking in odd directions. His priests typically angualte their necks and heads to their sides in ritual (sometimes causing terrible deformities in their spines, stretching or tethrying their spinal-cords from their brain-stems and causing all sorts of neurological disorders..hence the name "crazy die").
- Sins: handing 2 d10's to a newbie and expecting them to know what the hell to do with them to determine a %; not pre-ordaining WHICH d10 is the 10's die and WHICH is the 1's die (always the warmer-colored die is the 10's die in the church of Decahedros)
- Domains: Family, Storm, Protection, Insanity
Dodecahedros
- Demigod of the d12; lord of the old longsword vs. gnolls; the not-often-called-upon-god; Lord of the Gall-stones of Dice; the shadowy god; the "just in case I ever play a barbarian" god
- Dogma: The D12 does not have idols or temples of any sort; in fact, it oftentimes just shares space with other deities' temples until called upon.
- Sins: Rolling the d12 instead ofa d20 and vice-versa invokes a terrible wrath upon the chance-seeker and may curse dice for years or even centuries.
- Domains: Darkness, Slime, Cavern, Charm
Icosahedros
- Supreme being of the d20's. Lord of crystals, bones, and
gumball-looking-things-from-my-basic-set-from1981
- Dogma: Icosahedros is ubiquitous. His cult started from humble beginnings and is now supreme. The growth of this being surpasses even that of the cult of THor that overthrew the cult of Odin in ancient times. It is to be blown upon, as is the d6, in times of high stress for luck.
- Sins: To throw the d20 at another being brings impotence. To mistakenly toss Triacontahedros and invoke Icosahedros will cause one's knees to become crippled and arthritis to form in your pinky-toe. Any idolatrous image of two 20's on a statue of Icosahedros will bring ritual, rusty-saw-blade castration upon the creator and any tossers.
- Domains: Sun, Law, Battle, Magic, Nobility
Triacontahedros
- Demigod of the d30's; the unused lord; the redundant; the retarded demigod of diamond-sides; the neglected; patron to the ignored.
- Dogma: There is little dogma for the worshippers of Triacontahedros to follow. Their priests often wander aimlessly and hide out for years, not knowing what is going on yonder.
- Sins: This church is the most sinned upon church but it is unknow what sinful definitions may exist for it's religion. THere are stories of befoulment in motion pictures, that bear not mention except to reference a certain clip that was cut out of the Jackas-s movie right before the matchbox car sequence.
- Domains: Undeath, Orc, Chaos
Hectogos
- Lord of the golf-ball-looking d100's. The lord of the geometric pure circle of limited angles. The noisy god you can shake(literally). The god that makes you wonder what's on the inside. The philosopher.
- Dogma: The d100 must be shaken vigorously whether it contains the sand or not before being thrown and invoked.
- Sins: To golf, putt, or bowl Hectagos.
- Domains: Renewal, Ocean, Portal
Their stories remain untold..except at local bakeries where old men gather to throw the bones and tell lies...
Let me know if you enjoyed this post.
