Actually, not in my experience. If it can go for a couple of days without any interest, it usually means that not enough people are interested in being a part of it.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just that after years of watching this board, that's the way it seems.

Personally, I would like to see more interest in this. It's a GOOD idea. I just think that it will probably go by the wayside like a lot of other good ideas I've seen.

Mr. Oberon
"That's MY opinion, not yours. Go get your own."

It depends etirely on the topic. This one in particular requires someone to take a leadership role and organize it. It's not a matter of interest or lack thereof: if someone steps forward and commits time to the project then it will come about, but if no one does then it will die on the vine. This is not the kind of thing that will just "happen" if enough people express interest and post.

As such it can go a week or more without posts if at that point someone comes forth and takes the reins.

Well, it was my idea, so I don't mind taking charge, if people are interested. I think we only need a few publishers at first to make it worth our while.

So here's the deal. If you're interested in this group, let me know here. If I can get 3 to 4 people to start, we'll do it. I'll ask Morrus to set up a private forum (so we don't have to go to an addition site) and we'll get the appropriate people access.

If you are interested, we'll need to know who you are (your company and your position in the company). If possible, please give us a way to verify it. If we're going to do this, we need to be sure only publishers have access to the material we may be discussing. If you don't want to post details about yourself and position here in this public forum (you know, paranoia and all that:) ) then email me at epsg@dimwhit.com. Once we're in a private forum, then we can get more details about each other as necessary.

Also keep in mind, if you want to join, that doesn't mean you have to participate a certain amount, or that you have to open up your products if you don't want to. We'll all only share what we're comfortable with. Hopefully, though, we can give each other some good ideas.

So that's it. I realize it may take a few days for people to see this, so let's shoot for getting this going in the next week or two.

I'm still interested. I'm senior person at Darkwater Press, I'm also the junior person, and the copy boy. I'm waiting to have material completed and ready before making any kind of official "front page" announcement, but the link to my slightly out of date web page has been at the bottom of my sig for a few months. Creatures Fair and Foul is still in the works, but won't be available before December. The Great Forest is also still on the list; the other mentioned products are still uncertain. I'm also working on "Notes from the North", a series of free supplements detailing whatever the heck I feel like. The first Notes should go up around November 1st.

Darkwater is strictly a vanity affair; I'll keel over in shock if it makes money.

That's it; I'll understand if people want to wait until publishers have a product before admitting them.

Cheers
Nell.

Name, company and position is in my sig. In case you've turned these off (shame on you), here's that information again: Stefan Pietraszak, "boss" of The Other Game Company (TOGC). Email: stefan@theothergamecompany.com

Oh, and TOGC has one product on sale (the Complete Spell Cards), and many free downloads. Oh, and two projects are in the pipes...

As a professional typesetter and layout person for more than three years I'd be the one making comments on layout ;)

What about people in the process of setting up companies, who might also need advice/wisdom? Do you think they could be accepted as well?

IMHO that depends...
If the person/would-be-publisher in question really is pushing forward (a regularly updated website, product previews etc.) I think it would be ok.

On the other hand, if you open this up too much, it might loose it's focus and dedication.

Possible solution: anything the support group comes up with (say, a "layout primer" or somesuch) could be "public domain", while group membership itself would be closed to any (willing) publisher who's actually has published one or more products.
What do you think?
