[The End of the World of Darkness] What's White Wolf got up its sleeve?

Whoa!

I always wondered if this would ever happen. So Caine is coming back next year?

Yeah, didn't you hear the announcement on CNN? He's on a diplomatic mission for world peace ;-)

I personally feel that the WoD lost it's consistancy by the huge amount of products that come and go, get reprinted, discontinued, rewritten, messed up, burned, staked, or whatever. I like the ideas presented in WoD, and most books are pretty fun to read, but i think they need to get info on this new WoD out soon or it will kill off a huge portion of their fan base...

As for the out of print WW books, check the P2P networks, most of the stuff is available there. Although many might find those P2P networks offensive, they are a great resource for getting books that are out of print.

Hey, I know I gave up on buying new WoD books years ago because of this. Even if I was still playing WoD regularly, the only books I'd be purchasing are the core rules and maybe the Players' Guides and Storyteller's Guides. It just wasn't worth trying to keep up.

The closest thing Mage ever had to an end times, was Armageddon which would happen if the Nephandi won. But they weren't really in a good position to win last time... However based on the fact the title is Ascension, maybe it involves certain factions among the traditions and technocracy actually pushing the masses to ascension.

The world of darkness coming to an end, well it should be about time since they've been saying that the end times are near in almost every game line and edition since the beginning.

With any luck, they'll reprint it as a single setting with a single power system for all types of characters... That way, you could have multi-type campaigns without having to convert for every variation of the Storyteller system...

Someone wanna wake me when this one is over?

I must admit to feeling vastly underwhelmed.

Well, with some luck, at least the angst will be gone...

The problem with Mage is that the Ascension War ended... people just stopped caring. :)

I might check the book out (for Vamp) but blah.
Blah I say!

Another new edition that's not called a new edition.

I wonder how many more Ante's get nuked.

Actualy, now that I've had time to think this over, I have gone from "Blech" to "NOOOOOO!!!!".

I *like* the WoD darnit! I don't want it to end!

Chiming In

I've played Vampire and Werewolf and while I liked the systems well enough the plots and roleplaying that it offered seemed invariably strung around other people more powerful than you sending you on missions, bailing you out, or rewarding you. Granted, this can happen in d&d too, but with vamp and werewolf it always seemed that no matter who you were you were part of something bigger, and damnit you better be involved and interested or else you werent a good roleplayer.

On the other hand, this level of detail into various sects, clans, etc allowed for a very interesting game. The biggest reason I never presonally bought books is the same reason I didn't get anything other than the 2e players handbook, MM, and DMG. There was too much stuff. I managed to join in on the conception of 3e and so I know what is out there (as far as WotC) and I dont dabble much with d20 in general (sorry d20 companies - although Revised CC and Midnight are both contenders for this to change soon).

Anyway, my point being, that in 2004 or 2005 when the game "restarts" I will probably buy the corebooks which I hope will allow a character from a vampire, werewolf, or whatever else theyve cooked up over the years background. I guess its more fun getting into a game as its starting then one as its ending. If they play it off right, it could get pretty big, remember all the hype 3e caused?

I'm liking this, now. I may very well insert it into the campaign i'm planning.

The one thing I'm VERY concerned about though is...what happens after.

Let's say there are vampires again (no guarantee of course). A brand new setting? Blah. The Setting is what made vampire, in my opinion. I love the setting and the history and the politics.

So while I applaud them having the guts to do this....i'm worried about what'll happen afterwards. Ah well, there are still people running 1E D&D games, so it wouldn't be so weird to run pre-gehenna games.
