It is the year 1257 and this was the last of the Cities of Peace, The Fifth City, located deep in neutral waters. It was a port of call for refugees, smugglers, businessmen, diplomats, and travelers from hundreds of islands. It could be a dangerous place, but it was the last, best hope for peace. The Fifth City was a dream given form, a dream of an ocean without war, when species from different islands could live side-by-side in mutual respect. The Fifth City was the last of the Cities of Peace. This is its story.
The black outfits and gloves were, of course, a dead give away. Corps of Magi. Two of them entered the Chief Constable's office, followed by a giant of a human. The male Mage was relatively normally attired for the Corps. The woman, on the other hand, was dressed flamboyantly for a mage, with a form-fitting dress and corset adding flair and style rarely seen in a Mage. Felix is the only officer on shift at the moment as the Constable, Garrus, is at a meeting with the Island's Governor, Lord Clarion. Plenty of enlisted guards were available, of course, should things get...interesting. Per the Fifth City's regulations, members of the Corps of Magi were required to register with the Constable's office within a day of arriving in the city. As for the giant...his reason for being here was a mystery.
Marcus and Amisi had arrived together on a Corps of Magi special transport. Marcus had been assigned by the Corps to be the Fifth City's magical adjunct to the Constabulary. The papers informing the Constable of the assignment currently rested in Marcus' gloved hand. Amisi had been sent along for reasons not disclosed to Marcus. What she knew and he did not was that Amisi had been given a rather cushy assignment as the commercial Mage for the Fifth City, a posting normally reserved for higher ranking Magi. But, as the city didn't have any higher ranking Magi in residence, a certain someone had pulled a couple of strings...and here she was. Commercial Magi worked for anyone who could afford their fees, usually merchants looking for magical support during trade negotiations. The constabulary or the Governor himself could hire her services as well but she was not beholden to them as Marcus was.
Korgon had followed the beautiful woman he'd spotted in the market square to the constable's office where a lean and wiry young member of the constabulary was positioned behind a desk. Felix noted the presence of a dozen or so guards tending to their duties.
