D&D 5E (2014) The Fifth City - Episode 1: The Gathering

Amisi takes Korgon's ale reluctantly while she watches Makcus sip his brandy reservedly. She decides to try the ale. She takes a big gulp like Korgon did and immediately spits it out all over the table. "OH!!!" She takes some napkins and cleans herself up and the table. "You lied!" she shouted at Korgon, "That BURNED! Surely it was not meant to drink like that!" She scrubs hard but there is no way the dirty table is getting clean.

She sits dejected. "I'm not very good at this."

"Tis a skill that takes some practice. Just means you need to drink more" replies Korgon grinning and taking back what remains of his tankard.

Markus continues to hide his smirk behind his present snifter of brandy. When the second arrives, courtesy of Ambassador Mollari, He finishes the one he was nursing and raises it in toast to the Ambassador and takes a sip.

Tseg'Rhal

Rhal knew humans liked bland food and that they couldn't drink worth a damn, but he had seen hatchlings quaff harder stuff and just wobble after their mother's ankles. He couldn't help but be embarrassed for Amisi, like she had been born with an intolerable sickness toward drink. However, just being born human was enough of a weakness in spirits and brews, so he could hardly feel sorry for her without pitying the entirety of humanity.

He ordered a double of brandy straight. "Korgon, perhaps begin Amisi with a weaker drink. Sherry is a favorite among my people." Rhal left out that it was a favorite reward for younglings who had finished their meals - bones and all.

OOC: Sorry, I'll be better, pinky-swear.

Lenya was content to trail along behind her more flamboyant and extroverted compatriots, observing what was happening around them. All of this was so much outside her normal experience... Once they were seated, she tried to keep her eyes on what was going on around them; this was, after all, a primarily human tavern- though not entirely so. She took a single cup, of what she thought was ale, and nursed it quite slowly- she was, after all, used to tea, and she had heard tales of the effects of strong drink. While the experience of socializing in a common tavern was more "enlightening" than "enjoyable", she was resolved not to cause yet another scene.

"Perhaps I'll try some of this sherry you speak of Rhal. Though I am not in a rush to do so. We would drink wine with dinner but that tastes nothing like this," she waves her hand around the table to everyone's drinks. "I do not know how anyone keeps drinking!"

She sighs, "It's a shame we missed most of that dancer, Adira. She was quite beautiful and her dance enchanting from what I saw. That Tiefling man is quite enamored with her too."

"So, now that we are here, what do we do? We could ask around for information but Markus said he was already doing that. We could just enjoy ourselves but I doubt that involves just sitting here drinking foul tasting drinks."

Markus lets his smile be seen as he unhides from behind the brandy and says, "The sherry should be just fine for you." and he leaves it at that.

Felix examines the 'gentlemen' with N'Grath carefully so that he will recognize them if he seems them again. Felix also sips at his drink sensing that he's going to need his wits this evening. "Drinking is not a sport for everyone, perhaps you'll find people watching and conversation more to your liking. A bit of eating is in order as well." Seeing the ambassador coming his way somewhat unsteadily, Felix rises and goes to meet him a smile on his face.

"Eating, What a good Idea." Comments the mage. He waves down the barmaid again, smiles apologetically and asks what the special of the day. Hearing it is roasted duck, apple stuffing, green beans and a few other nice additions, he orders a whole duck and enough sides for everyone at the table.

When it arrives he pulls off a drum stick and munches slowly, savoring the fine crusted skin and juicy leg meat.

OOC: slurp drool. can't wait for thanksgiving!

Mollari wraps his arm around Felix's shoulders, guiding him toward the bar, "Ah Felix, my very good friend! How goes the guarding business, hmm?"

As is usually the case when Ambassador Mollari is drunk, Felix notes an undercurrent of sadness in his voice. It is well known among the city guards that the tiefling ambassador is a disgrace back home and was sent to the Fifth City to remove him from the royal court. Because of this, the Ambassador spends his time drinking, gambling, and carousing and has spent more than a few nights in the city jail as an "honored guest" to sleep it off. He is, of course, never charged with anything due to diplomatic immunity.

Speaking of ambassadors, Rhal notes the entrance of the dragonborn ambassador, G'Kar. The keen eyed dragonborn ambassador's eyes linger on Amisi, who's back is turned and thus has not notice the ambassador's arrival. The ambassador then meets the gaze of Rhal and motions the younger dragonborn over to join him at a small table near the entrance.

Markus realizes that N'Grath's associates are the same men who harassed Lenya at the docks earlier.

OOC: All those indulging in more than their fair share of drink and/or who are inexperienced in the ways of alcohol, please make a Constitution save.

Shrugging helplessly toward his companions, Felix allows himself to be led away. "The trick with the 'guarding business' remains figuring out who needs to be guarded from whom," comments Felix with a wry smile. "how's the political arena?"
