Moving 30 ft and having to do a standard action within 6 sec.
You can move up to twice your speed and not provoke an AoO.

I think the idea of a withdrawal is the best way to describe this movement. Also remember that it is just the first square that is not considered threatened here. You cannot withdraw from an opponent with reach without provoking an AoO, even if all you do is move.

The First Task: Answer this question:
"Why, if you're in melee with someone, and you just move away from them, they don't get an AoO, but if you move away and then cast a spell 30' away, they get an AoO when you move? How can something you're *going* to do affect you at the start of the move?"

The basic idea is that if you "only move", you are specifically taking care and time to dodge out of the way from any possible AOO.

In order to clarify this in my campaign, one of my few house rules is to institute a specific "disengage" action, which is a standard action, allows a normal move, and prevents AOOs from occuring during that move. (As documented here: http://home.attbi.com/~superdan.net/housrule.html )

Well yeah. Minor slip in the details :)

However. Since you can take two Move-Equivalent Actions but not two Standard Actions in a round we must assume that a Standard Action take more than half you turn.

In other words. You have room to squize some extra attention in when you only make two Move-Equivalent Actions.

Many thanks to all so far, your explanations are, as usual, of high quality.

I thank you, and the kittens thank you.
