The Gamers: Dorkness Rising...WTF?

Alright....what's the $%^%$& the deal with this movie?

They showed it to a crowd at last year's Gencon. It's now six months later... and still no DVD movie to buy.

So where the hell is this movie? What could possibly be taking so long that they would go from being able to screen it to STILL be unable to sell it 6 months later?

This makes ZERO sense to me. Anybody know what the scoop is with this thing?

Which...totally fails to answer the question asked:

"You’re not going to believe what’s taking so long to put the final touches on the movie. So in the place of the truth, we present you with the following lie..."


"So in all honesty, the movie is doing well. When do you get to see it? We finally have an answer to this. We guarantee that the film will be released before March 2nd, 2091! Yeah, still no idea. Sorry folks!"

"We will screen the finished movie at GenCon Indy, 2006. Unfortunately, there’s not the time to author, produce, and package a DVD for sale. Besides, whoever ends up as our distributor will have control over when the DVD goes on sale, what content is on the DVD, how much it will cost, and so forth. We self-distributed all of our movies so far, which is why we have previously been able to sell a movie as soon as we finished it. But The Gamers: Dorkness Rising is going to be our transition from little guys into not-so-little guys, so we are getting a big distributor, and that takes time."

Again, it's a legitimate question. WTF is holding up release of this movie?

Quite so. Their website is totally devoid of real info on the subject - which is why I asked here.

With a delay this long, my expectation is that there is some legal hold- up stalling things.

Somebody sued somebody, somebody backed out of something, or some nutty Writers Guild/Actors Guild/Directors Guild *other union issue* etc. issue cropped up whereby the production company/ distributor would take a larger hit than it would by releasing it than it will have by holding it back.

Anyways - I guess it's essentially a *blank stare* here as well.

I'd read the same thing a couple months ago, but I don't remember where I saw it.

According to the Dead Gentleman podcast on the WotC site, the movie is done and they are currently in talks with several distribution company. A limited theatrical release is a possibility.
