The Glove of Storing.

You two crack me up.

I love gloves of storing, sure beats groping for that wand in the midst of combat. *fwoop* Wand in hand and use, then likely move away. Though I suppose I could quick draw a wand if I had the feat eh? But I spent those feats on spell pen and craft wand. ;)

Uzagi: If what you say about the ballroom scenario is true, then the Hat of Disguise should be 10,000gp too. But it's not. As far as your "grabbing" scenario, Hypersmurf has already said it all. You've been house-ruling the item far more powerfully than it is, core.

Did anyone in your campaigns ever pick up the Quick Draw feat?

You must rate this ability pretty low, as it seems.
If your only use for it is to gain a move action here and again, then yes, I rate it very low. I have seen Quick Draw taken...for characters interested in throwing multiple thrown weapons in a single round. Under such a circumstance it is an invaluable feat.

It's also useful for switching weapons or getting another when you're disarmed or sundered, or when you need or want to use another weapon than the one you've got in hand.

The Gloves take it a step further; it's a move action to resheathe your sword, but with the gloves, you can switch from your Sword of Smiting with Cold Iron to your Sword of Smiting with Silver and not have to worry about the weapon being stolen or destroyed as collateral damage. Sure, at low levels, who cares?...except at higher levels, when somebody can snatch away 200k gp of your personal property, that 10k gp (or 20k for two, or 40k for building two into another set of gloves) suddenly becomes a worthwhile investment.

I try and get my character's gloves enchanted with the Storing property in every game, just because it's so darn useful for that. When we hit epic levels in our Birthright game, and I was carrying around my 4.5M gp sword, I did everything I could to make sure that was safe from sundering or disarming. I also worked out a few tricks with it, like switching weapons in the middle of an attack sequence, if it seemed cooler to use the glaive than the bastard sword.

I especially like them when I have a character with both melee and ranged weaponry. Switching quickly between bow and sword is pretty nifty.

Heh. Yeah, it's pretty funny, especially since it is an actual warning (in all caps, no less) written in that module. :D

It looks to me that the question isn't whether the gloves of storing are generally usefull items (they are in fact a useful little item) but rather the question is: Is the benefit of the gloves worth its cost?

Best thing to do is to begin comparing the glove of storing with equal cost items found in the DMG. I'm not at home right now (4th holiday with the fam) otherwise I'd bust out my DMG for some price shopping comparison. Anyone else got some free time? :p

Happy 4th!

Fair enough. And if I am ever so lucky to reach epic levels (or even very high levels) I can see the cost being minor in exchange for the added security. But from 1-13th (the highest I've gotten in a long-term campaign as opposed to one-shots) I've never seen anyone buy the Glove of Storing for that purpose. Instead, a fellow partymate picked one up to, as Thanee mentions, switch from her bow to her rapier. At 2000gp, it was a worthwhile investment for that. At 10,000gp, my guess is she never would have even considered it.

Likewise, I can see a fighter picking up Quickdraw just to switch between weapons, but I can't imagine any other class that doesn't get bonus feats doing so. Feats are too precious.

In any case, I'm not trying to convince folk that the glove of storing is overpriced, including my DM. I'm willing to accept that--for better or worse--it's now 10,000gp. And for me, that's far too expensive to even consider purchasing (for my intended purpose) for a long, long time.

Thanks everyone for the clarifications, though. It looks like it would have worked nicely for the purpose I intended, if it weren't for it's new price tag. ;)
