The Grand Failure of the Warlock.

But then, I'm an old HERO fan...

Me too, from it's very first release back in 1982.

But for something as potentially diverse as some of these classes, reflavoring should not have been so necessary. Too many good designers at WotC with either experience doing or having played in systems with more flex should have seen the potential from the get go. In DCv1 and Pathfinder, the Sorc class got broadened to what it probably should have been from the get-go. The Warlock had to wait until 4Ed (AFAIK) to get similar justice.

In my thread here http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-legacy-discussion/319404-3-x-warlock-pacts.html I'm developing some feats to add flavour to 3E warlocks, it might inspire you...

I've been watching that thread, but my issue has nothing to do with inspiration. I just don't want to do the work that should have been done in the first place.

The reasoning for this is multifold, but one of the big reasons is that the DMs I play with don't want to deal with the headache of HRing a bunch of stuff, so typical campaigns are played with the rules as is (including errata and certain long-established HRs). That means that modifying classes is seldom done.

I am playing 3 different Warlock characters in 3 different 3.5e campaigns. I did convince each DM to allow me to bring in some of the online Warlock rewrites...but only specific parts...4 skill points per level, Eldritch blast damage upgrade, and increased number of invocations per level. We tried multiple attacks per round, but it seemed too unbalanced. Otherwise, this has made playing a Warlock much more interesting.
