D&D 5E (2024) The Great Wizard Extinction.

Wouldn't be the worst idea.

That solves the problem that at some point cantrips outdamage low level spells.
Maybe I try that as a house rule.

So level 1 and 2 damage spells add one damage die at level 5, 11 and 17, level 3 to level 5 spells at level 11 and 17 and level 6 to level 8 spells at level 17.

And when we are at it, I'd give sneak attack the same progression.

This is not much, but maybe helps a bit.

I also find it satisfying that at some point a standard fireball does 10d6 damage.

Yeah level 11.

Ironically was theory crafting a new rogue similar idea. But liwer hp as well.

What rate should rogue sneak attack scale at. No idea.

Treantmonk thinks that cantrip scaling is enough. He uses true strike to achieve it.
So I guess, I would only scale it if the rogue uses it during the attack action.

Yeah I watched his Rogue video and wasn't impressed. It was a very narrow builds as well.

Im thinking rogue as a striker similar to 4E. Less danage. Key difference you can sneak attack multiple times.

Sneak attack similar to pre 3E instead of X2 or X3 its an extra d6. Hit points drastically lowered think half current.
So rogue tops out +5d6 in effect. Other strikers get smaller damage boosts but multiple attacks or whatever.

Prof bonus -1 then.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I was thinking on this, and one of things I see all the time about wizards is that they have the largest and most versatile spell lists. But they cannot access the whole of this huge spell list as they are limited to the number of spells they learn by level and the spells they find or buy and put into their spell book. On top of this they select the few that they can prepare for a day.

So I was thinking, because they are supposed to be the scholars of magic, why should they mentally prepared spells, I know this is the traditionnel method, buy why not make everything in their spell book a prepared spell, so they can cast everything in the spell book as long as they have a spell slot available.

This would make the spell book an essential aspect of the class, because without it all they can cast is cantrips.
but this would definitely separate them from all other spell casters. Of course this would make a spell book uniquely tied to the wizard who wrote it, and not usable by other wizards. this would prevent an issue of defeating a NPC wizard and suddenly getting access to a bunch of new spells.
