The "iconic" characters -- time to for them to die?

So the 3.0 books introduced these critters. Mialee, Lidda, Jozan, Regdar, and so forth.

What a bunch of losers!

Seriously, they were tiresome when they first appeared, IMO, and they get more annoying with each new picture.

They all seem so insipid. Why couldn't WotC have resurrected Emrikol the Chaotic, Mordenkainen, and Bigby? Those guys had 'tude, dude!

I'm all for both Ironics ("Iconic" strange combos) and new featured PC personalities, but you've got to realize that the standard Iconics are not there for our amusement. They exist to give new players a baseline -- for educational purposes.

As such, they're quite useful and successful.

And I love Lidda.

Keep the iconics, and make a thread in off-topic where they give relationship advice, is what I say.

Bah! We didn't need such hand-holding in *my* day. All we needed were our wits, some dice, and a thesaurus to decipher the occasional Gygaxianism.

But even if I buy your explanation, couldn't WotC have chosen cool characters? (Again, I direct you to the fine example of Emrikol the Chaotic.)

The iconics are fine, some people had use for them and that's great, but they are also really easy to ignore.

They should have a backstabbing, a-social iconic played by a god damn munchkin. Thats what I think.

Maybe they should outsource writing the iconics to Ab3, who has a great site about dysfunctional characters .. and players
