I never intended my poll to influence WotC policy, but it is interesting to see just how many people like 3e's artwork in relation to the comparatively small number of people who dislike it.

Now who's the one making assumptions?

Umm, I didn't vote in your poll. Maybe I missed it. Maybe I looked at it and decided the discussion and poll weren't anything I wanted to devote any time to. Heck, I wouldn't have voted in this one except that it was so amusing and I could pimp Piratecat's Iconography story.

I dislike a lot of the art in 3E. It's not that it isn't well done, I just don't like a lot of it. But I can appreciate it as something that appeals to a different market than just me. So why should I put forth a lot of effort to slam the art? It's art and it will appeal to different people. My dislike for a lot of the art doesn't make the entire product unusable. Shockingly enough, I don't buy DnD books for their art. If they have art that appeals to me, then the book has more value to me. If the book has abyssmal art, then it might make me think less of the product. If it has well done art that just doesn't appeal to me, then maybe one of my friends will like it? I'm not that concerned about it.

So while Todd Lockwood has good talent, I don't like some of his stuff. I didn't vote in your poll, so you really aren't aware of my perspective (until now.)

Well, not quite.,..Lidda has Mialee's name tattooed where *most* people never see it. ;)

[Tries to forget that Lidda is 3' tall...or whatever the metric people call it.]

Ugh...three feet tall isn't very appealing. But if you're lying down... :]

3 feet tall, a.k.a. 1 meter (give or take a couple of centimeters).

The iconics aren't so great, but I'll take them any day over these guys:
Don't make me sic Tiamat on you....

Besides, I don't care how many votes Lidda got in the hot iconic thread, if we took a "hot rogue" poll Sheila would definitely kick her ass.

Huh huh... do you think we could convince Sheila to slap her ass bare-handed? Huh huh, huh huh... :] :] :]

Agreed. There's nothing worse than "fantasy" art in which the women have big, permed hair and are wearing red blush and blue eye shadow. Which describes most of Elmore's work.

Which goes to prove that most artwork is dated to the period RL in which it was done. Elmore and Caldwell did their styles in the 80s fashions and the newer guys did theirs in the 90s style. Their stuff, although great, is dated in the realm of the makeup and pouffy hair that women wore in RL in the 80s. Caldwell's also from what I've seen with that pic of Alias with the teased hair and cleavage-baring bikini style armor top with stupid-looking shoulder pads that was a ripoff of some anime series.

Betcha I could find "Hennet-clones" running around cons..... ;) There's quite a bit of those who wear stuff similar to his outfit. Makes him a more colorful character, IMO.
