Yes, but if my poll about 3e's art is any indication, then the people who don't like it are a definate minority, so I doubt that WotC is going to feel very motivated to return to Eorl Otis' dripping tentacles and Larry Elmore's girls with chainmail bikinis and 1980s hairdos.
Well, THAT sucks. :p

Besides, such a look would go well with the 3e anime look. You can't tell me dripping tentacles and chainmail bikini girls isn't an anime waiting to happen (if it hasn't already).... *ducks*

:]

That's right, you don't. ;) You conflate two distinct questions in it: (a.) the extent to which one likes/dislikes 3E art; and (b.) whether one prefers 3E art over the art of an earlier edition, or vice versa.

(SNIP)

Okay, I'm abandoning this part of the thread. I am not going to get in an argument over semantics and what you think is proper form related to a poll from another thread. If we want to continue to discuss the iconics, fine, but I'm not going to bog down the tread with a useless debate about how a poll should have been worded.

So, to reiterate:

Heh.

3e artwork is has about as much in common with anime as Normon Rockwell.

...

First of all Dark Jester, you introduced your poll from another thread into this discussion. You should not get upset when that poll is subsequently criticized.

And I am sorry, but the fact that you dismiss my point as simply having to do with "semantics" shows that you really do not understand the nature of polling. Proper wording is essential in order for a poll to have any value whatsoever. In this thread you referred to your poll in order to support a claim. I merely pointed out that your poll, because of the way in which it was worded, could not possibly support that claim.

And yes, the A team and B team are indeed on a mission now to eliminate Devis. He will be the first. He will not be the last.

 ...

I don't know about you, but I think the 3e Iconics are a BIT more inspired than the cliches that the 2e iconics...

Man, oh man, I had forgotten how HIDEOUS the art was in 2e. Thanks for the post!

Count me in with one vote for the art in 3e...especially the dragons. Check out the dragons in the 1e and 2e monster manuals...yech.

Yeah, I like Elmore's art too. He's definately one of the better artists from previous D&D editions (even if he does have a thing for girls with chainmail bikinis and 1980s hair styles ;)). And, unlike most other 1e/2e artists, Elmore's illustrations still look good after all these years.

I don't totally agree with that. Some of Elmore's stuff still looks good, but a lot of it just looks horribly dated.

Recently I took out my 2e Ravenloft boxed set and my wife (who hadn't seen the cover before) *laughed* when she saw the woman. I asked her, "What's so funny?" She says, "The vampire is attacking one of Charle's Angels!"

Only Hennet and Vadania have tattoos, so where is this supposed proliferation coming from?

Well, not quite.,..Lidda has Mialee's name tattooed where *most* people never see it. ;)

[Tries to forget that Lidda is 3' tall...or whatever the metric people call it.]

Agreed. There's nothing worse than "fantasy" art in which the women have big, permed hair and are wearing red blush and blue eye shadow. Which describes most of Elmore's work.
