The Internet's influence on your gaming experiences

Well my earlier days would have been better because I know my gaming has improved by this site alone.

If the internet did not exist I wouldn't have known about the Third Edition and probably would not be playing at all. It was a random thing to come across Eric's old site years ago that got me excited to play again.

I have no doubts whatsoever that ENWorld has been a tremendous resource for putting together my games. But I sometimes wonder if it has made me lazy.

It used to be that when I was kicking around an idea for a game that I had only my own ideas to work with. Now I find that I often put little effort into mulling the idea over before I just say, "Bah, I'll just post it on ENWorld and get their input!"

Internet in the 70s-80s: nothing would have changed (being born in 87 and all).

No Internet in the 90s to present: since there would not likely have been any MMORPGs, I would probably have been more likely to have started playing D&D, since it would have surpassed the CRPGs much more obviously. However, there's also a fairly high chance I never would have heard about it. Oh, and getting games together would have been frightful (since I do a lot of my communication with players by internet.)

My games have improved remarkably thanks to ENWorld and the internet.

There have been times when I've been low on creativity and ideas, then my players had a sucky game. Now, I say "Hey! I need a reason why Yuan-Ti would band together with gnolls". Presto! Y'all come back with not just one, but several reasons and a statted NPC.

Not to mention the rules discussion and game theory discussions.

Not sure on the first question, but I can guarantee that I would never even heard of many d20 publishers if not for the internet.

I would probably only be buying WotC D&D products, and I know very little if anything about "open gaming".

There wouldn't have been so many differences in fact. Because Internet mainly inspires me to buy d20 stuff. So, as in the old days only TSR did publish D&D stuff, that was easy to get it, no need of Internet to advertise it.

I would never have been aware of MOST of the d20 products because I heard about them on the Internet.

Not sure how it would have affected my 80's gaming. I was really young when I started RPGing and would still have gone through all sorts of ridiculous game ideas. :)

90's, it might have gotten me playing again, as I gave up for 5-6 years of that time.

Reckon my own game got a lot better from internet exposure. The DM advice off ENworld has really helped my games no end. No internet and most of that probably wouldn't have happened.

I also download a lot of maps and pictures to use as handouts. If I didn't have the internet I'd have to use the library. And I guess I'm too lazy for that.

I never would have read Alarums & Excursions -- of course, it probably never would have come into existence.

If the internet didn't exist now, I'd probably still be reading A&E, and a bunch of other magazines every month.

Like Buttercup above, I never would have gamed. I've always played online. Heck, its how I've met some of my best friends. Without the Internet, its likely I never would have gamed to begin with.
