D&D General The Jack, a Class That Gets a Bonus Origin Feat?

And obviously other stuff, basically stealing the Bard's jack of all trades schtick and decoupling it from spellcasting. A trickster, skill monkey, and lucky bastard.

And I think the concept actually merits a bonus Origin Feat in tier 1.

It's not without precedent, since the Warlock can get that via invocation (annoys me that pact of the blade doesn't open up fighting style feats as invocations but whatever), but I'm still curious what folks think.

One of my favourite concepts, I've got a few Shadowdark classes playing in this space.

For weapons, I kind of appreciate the idea of having them be ad hoc militia types -- simple weapons plus polearms.

And then Jack of all Blades (half prof on other weapons) with the ability to use their next best to fighter number of masteries

Jack of All Blades is crazy! I love it.

Okay.

Two questions.

Expertise like rogues and bards, or like ranger?

and

Extra Attack, a variant of sneak attack or a damage orient bardic inspiration, or something more idiosyncratic?

On this aspect I might lean into the x dY per Long Rest of One Time I Tried This, reflecting that they are occasionally great at a thing, but not consistently great at it.

Reflecting their born lucky lean that you're emphasizing, maybe damage on a miss that's greater than 10 they still do max weapon with no mods damage.

I actually dont want to lean thst hard into luck, nor do i want the class to be like...only succeeding because of luck, or not actually be thematically very good at anything.

They are part Jack from stories, yes, but also the clever and skilled problem solver who can talk circles around even enemies that are smarter because they underestimate the Jack, making even intelligent wizards act like idiots in their frustration.
