The Jade Frontier (DM: Ukingsken, Judge: Lord Sessadore)

[sblock=ooc]
BTW, does that mean we can have a short rest between encounters since the update is going to be late? ;)

Haha-no. Also, I think I'm going to need you to remind me to remind you as to who can gain Virtue of Valor's temp hp. Whenever you don't specify, I'll use my best judgment. This time it's Brenwar.[/sblock]

Two of the largest kobolds you've ever seen step out of the shadows, hissing threateningly, and lunge forward. Their aura of menace is somewhat disrupted when Yishim conjures up a patch of ice beneath one of them, causing it to slip and fall over, and the other one practically bounces off Brenwar's shield.

A kobold dressed in ceremonial robes approaches from the south. It looks all of you over and flames start darting around its fingers as its gaze settles on Yishim. It flings roaring flames at the wizard, but the attack goes wide.

From the north you hear someone shout, "Wretched worms, must I handle this myself?" A moment later another creature comes into view. This one appears to be a goblin, although its skin is tinted blue and covered with coiling tattoos. Its chainmail and axe are fairly ornate, but you have no doubt they are also perfectly serviceable. Also, it's hard to tell, but there's something strange about how its shadow follows it.

The creature sees you and barks out a laugh. "So, you are the newcomers to Maoleth? That town has sent you to be slaughtered." At that it rushes Brenwar and swings its axe faster than you would have thought possible. It catches the paladin in the arm, nearly causing him to drop his hammer.

As blood pours from Brenwar's wound, the creature smiles and whispers, "I think I'll give your skull to my master."

[sblock=Status]Firete (24/28)
Cheysuli (10/26+3, bloodied, Concealed)
Miranna (17/29)
Brenwar (6/29
, bloodied)
Yishim (18/22+3)
Denwarden 11 (-5)
Denwarden 93
Wyrmpriest
The Emissary

Denwarden 11 move to P7, triggering Yishim's readied action. It hits for 5 damage and knocks the Denwarden prone, so he spends his standard action to stand.

Denwarden 93 moves to H8 and charges Brenwar, missing.

The Wyrmpriest moves to R9 and attacks Yishim with a Fire Orb, which misses.

The Emissary moves to G8 and charges Brenwar, hitting for 12 damage,, which bloodies Brenwar. And here I was thinking this turn would be a total wash.

So what is the plan? Shall we try to kill "The Emissary" first? I think whoever we target we all need to do it so it has less chance to spread the pain. The denwardens may be easier to kill so you guys let me know. I'll post my turn as soon as I get some feedback.
[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC Tactics]Yes, I agree with the idea to drop the emissary first. That Wyrmpriest might be a pain in the butt however. If we can get a good tactical setup to hit at least 3 of the bad guys, I'd be willing to drop my daily Sleep on them.

Firete, you should really consider healing Chey if she's still bloodied. She's out of second wind and I think you grant a bonus, don't you?[/sblock]By Bigby's beard, look at the size of these things! Keep them on the other side of Brenwar, friends.

He moves closer to the waterfall and unleashes a fiery burst behind the Emissary.[sblock=Actions]Move: I1

OOC: Looks like focusing on the emissary is probably our best bet- maybe one of our ranged casters can try to keep the wyrmpriest occupied, but the rest of us ought to try to put the emissary out (if we can).

IC: Miranna blew out a heavy breath as she surveyed the new foes. This was going to be a tough fight, she knew, and there was no time to hang back. She stepped forward to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Brenwar, then swung her sword around in a rippling arc of steel and arcane force. The shimmering arc of power sliced into both the kobold bruisers, and a tracery of lightning glittered momentarily across the Denwarden's scales...

OOC 2: Move to I 4
Standard: attack emissary and Denwarden 93 with Sword Burst, +4 vs. REF for 1d6+4 possible force damage. Attacks: 24 (CRIT for 10 force) (against emissary); 23 (hopefully a hit, for 7 force) (against Denwarden); rolls Roll Lookup
Minor: Aegis of assault to mark Denwarden 93 (allowing Brenwar to Divine Challenge emissary if he wants)

Brenwar staggered by the attacks he received barely manages to stay on his feet. He stops and utters a prayer to Palladys knitting a number of his wounds. After his wounds heal he returns the attack two fold with his war hammer glowing with holy light.

[sblock=OOC and Twoheads]Wow, you two did some serious damage! TwoHeads: do I get a new Action Point? I used mine in the outdoor encounter, and was wondering if this counted as a second encounter[/sblock]

ooc: Nope. Everything inside the cave is one big encounter, and you get a new action point after every other encounter. Also, you hit the Emissary with your scorching burst. He's not bloodied.

Cheysuli Sage

"So, the emissary shows his face!" Cheysuli exclaims to herself as she wades through the pool of water at the foot of the fall. She stops when when she has the tattooed goblin fixed squarely in her sights.
She takes a deep breath at shouts over the din of the waterfall; "May Poena visit you, and exact upon you a hundred vengeances for the lives you have taken in this land!"
Chey focuses all her emotions on the Emissary; every drop of what she felt when she saw the bodies of dragonborn littering the side of the road, when she saw the faces of a family watching their livelihood burn to ashes. As she delivers her curse, Chey's earrings pulse brightly; casting an angry red light through the cavern.

Empowered by her memories, she reaches into the Emissary's mind, twisting his mind with horrifying images of his own death, In every shadow phantoms of those he has killed wait with anger in their eyes and steel in their hands.

[sblock=Actions]Move - move to I1 keeping concealment.
Minor - Curse the Emissary
Standard -:ranged:Curse of the Dark Dream vs. Emissary (1d20+4= 22 vs. Will; 3d8+4= 19 psychic damage) and slide 3 squares to I8 (I can retcon this to a dif square if you guys see a better tactic), Sustain: Minor. You slide the target 1 square (save ends).

Something just occured to me, have we been making OA's when we are charged?[/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]I know we agreed to take out the emmisary, but this makes it a little easier for your guys. I will need some help as I don't like having those two at my back! I still have my Verse of Trumph, but that does the most damage and I'd like to save it to where it can be of the most use.[/sblock]
Firete quickly uses her last majestic word on Chey then strides forward to challenge the kobold next to the leader.
Lets see if we can get you to fight without your master's help! she retorts, pulling him towards her.

You would only get an OA if the charger left a square you threaten. I thought I had been careful not to provoke with my charges, but if I missed one let me know. Also, I1 is currently occupied by Yishim, so I'll move you to H1 instead. Also, it looks like you forgot to roll curse damage. It came up as a 2.[/sblock]

The Emissary screams and recoils from Chey's assault, clutching his head in his hands. And then he abruptly stops and straightens up. His eyes are now orbs of inky blackness, and shadowy tendrils coil around him and his weapon. Get over here, you vermin!" he shouts to the kobolds.

Quick to heed their master's call, the two large kobolds rush towards him, and Firete is able to cut into one as it passes. Once again, the kobolds fail to get past their opponents' guards.

The priest steps into the main cavern, whispering a prayer as it does so. Shadows surge up from the ground, covering the two large kobolds and giving them a moment of unhindered movement. Then the priest hurls a fistful of fire at Firete. At such close range the flames can hardly miss, although Firete avoids the worst of it.

The Emissary launches himself at Brenwar, streams of darkness trailing in his wake. Brenwar manages to deflect the blow with his shield. Enraged, the Emissary swings his axe in a wide arc. It catches Brenwar, but Miranna is able to avoid the follow-through.

The Emissary
(-69, bloodied, Divine Challenged, Cursed)

Chey's attack bloodies the Emissary. While bloodied, the Emissary deals an additional d10 necrotic damage with his attacks and he gains regeneration 5. So don't let up.

Denwarden 11 moves to N3 and charges Brenwar and misses. Denwarden moves to H5, misses Miranna, and shifts to H4. Firete misses with her first OA, but hits 93 for 7 damage. Rolls. These worthless kobolds! I'm glad you're killing them.

The Wyrmpriest moves to O7 and uses his minor to Incite Faith, giving 5 temp hp to the two denwardens and allowing them to shift one square. Denwarden 93 shifts to I3, 11 stays put. The Wyrmpriest then casts Fire Orb on Firete, which hits for 6 fire damage.

The Emissary heals 5 hp. He charges Brenwar and misses. Then he spends an action point and attacks both Brenwar and Miranna. He hits Brenwar for a measly 9 damage and completely misses Miranna. Oh, and he takes 4 from Divine Challenge. Rolls. Ugh. At least he saves against Curse of the Dark Dream.

How disappointing. No one died. Hopefully we'll swap rolls for this next turn.[/sblock]
