D&D (2024) The Lackluster Ranger

I mean the community would not let WOTC do it.
Given WoTC's poor track record in the last couple of years, there are things that the community certainly does not want WoTC to do. Fixing a character class so that most of the community will be happy about it is one of those things we do want them to do.

They're trying to follow that old adage. You can please some people some of the time, but you can't please them all of the time.

If you aren't pleased by the current incarnation of a character class, you can either create a version that you like or find a 3pp/homebrewed version that does please you.

Well the community loved the TCOE Ranger.

I think the community has 2 design goals that don't mesh.

The community like then TCOE ranger. WOTC ported over the TCOE ranger. The community got mad because the Monk and Barbarian got more "changes" than the Ranger.

WOTC's mistake was saying the 2014 ranger is new. It's the Tasha Cauldron Ranger with FF being Hunter's Mark and every that was prof/LR changed to Wismod/LR.

I long said 5e is missing classes.

5e coud use
  • Level Up A5e's Fighter
  • Level Up A5e's Marshal
  • Mage Hand Press's Warmage
  • Any of the popular unofficial Savant or Noble class
  • A nonspellasting Psion or a Psion with new exclusive spells
  • A Strider class that is a medium armor warrior with a damage buff and stealth buff for nonmagical rangers
  • A Tamer class for Beastmaster and Summoners lovers
I agree. There is no pleasing the majority within the bounds of the 12(13) 5e classes.

I mean the community would not let WOTC do it.

They tried to standardize subclasses. That was reverted.
I had a feeling that people liked that
They tried to make the warlock a half caster and that was reverted.
warlock is unique with spellcasting and people wanted to keep that. Might worked as halfcaster if that was original 2014 idea.
They tried to make hex and Hunter's Mark once per turn and scale with level That would reverted.
because it was extremely bad. 1d6 once per round and uses your concentration.
people did liked non Conc HM, but maybe WotC didn't like the numbers
They try to give druids templates that was reverted.
bad call, 3.5e druid from PHB2 is the best wildshape I have seen so far.
The community voted down any major change BUT keeps harping on wanting major change on the ranger.
people are complicated.

had a feeling that people liked that
The people downvoted it

And there is the problem.

How do you change a class if you are only allowed to use the 2014 and Tasha's elements.

Jeremy Crawford Litterally said they don't need to playtest ranger anymore because they A (2014) or B (TCOE) tested it.

Well the community loved the TCOE Ranger.
No.

people loved Gloomstalker and somewhat Fey wanderer.

Gloomstalker was so much stronger than other subclasses that it hid Favored enemy, Favored foe, Favored terrain and what not under it's features.
same as Hexblade and Mercy monk, it was a hotfix for a class, without rewriting PHB.

but sometimes you go overboard and make Twilight cleric.

and Favored enemy and Favored terrain have potential to be good features with more broad application but it was made very narrow and 100% dependent on DM charity.

Ryoko's Guide to the Yokai Realms does happen to have a Tamer class for 5e. However, unless you are a fan of Pokemon, it might not be what you are looking for. 😋 Your character's travelling companion is a Pocket Familiar. ;)
I don't want it.

I want the 2014 beastmaster ranger with 3.5es beast spells converted.

75% of the 2014 and 2024 ranger's issues are solved by 2 words.
