D&D 5E The Lost Lands: Borderland Provinces

I just saw the The Lost Lands: Borderland Provinces setting book by Necromancer Games for the 5e system but there is next to no info about this setting on their page.

Does anyone know anything at all about this setting for 5e? I literally know nothing of it.

Well, it's the setting of their adventures like Rappan Athuk and the Slumbering Tsar... :)

I've always viewed it as a dark medieval setting, but I expect some of the Necromancer Games people will be along shortly to explain more.

Cheers!

I had a look the other day on the website and it seems PDFs are really expensive for the setting. I want to know more about the world and Bards Gate.

"Dark Medieval" is a good description, it's like Clark Ashton Smith's Averoigne stories. Borderland Provinces is the first specific 5e book for the campaign, and when the Kickstarter launches in a couple of days you'll be able to get a good feel for it, plus a free module is going to be released shortly for 5e as well.

The other supplements, like Bard's Gate, aren't yet specifically done for 5th edition, and the success of Borderlands with 5e fans will probably determine whether we continue to develop 5e campaign resources as opposed to just continuing with adventures and non-campaign resources for 5e. With Forgotten Realms as the "competition" it's not a given that campaign resources are in high demand for 5e. We're testing that with the Borderland Kickstarter.

The full Lost Lands canon is so huge it's hard to really describe in a nutshell -- there are resources like Bard's Gate that are still not converted from d20, and then there are books like Rappan Athuk, Lost City of Barakus, Cyclopean Deeps, Sword of Air, Sulmbering Tsar, and Northlands Saga that exist for Swords & Wizardry and Pathfinder, but not for 5e. Many of those pdfs are expensive because the books are HUGE. Like, page counts well over 500 pages.

Here's a bit more information:

We're planning on launching the Borderland Provinces Kickstarter for the core region of the Lost Lands campaign on October 15, 2 days from now. Many people have asked about pricing: the answer may be a very nice surprise:

(1) The Basic Campaign Price is $12
Yes, you did read that right. You can start a Borderland Provinces campaign on a $12 budget if your goal is just to have basic information about what's around Rappan Athuk and the other major locations. By getting the pdf Player Guide and Gazeteer, which comes with a pdf of the poster map, you're all set for that type of bare-bones campaign if you're a DIY game master who doesn't plan on using encounter tables, secret GM information, lairs, etc. The Player Gazeteer gives basic descriptions of the map locations, enough to work with if you're a build-it-yourself Game Master. And since the campaign also comes with a free adventure, Rogues in Remballo, you have a pretty complete set of resources to work with.

(2) The "Core" Campaign Hardcover + Map + PDF is $35
A library-quality hardcover of the GM campaign book is only $35 plus shipping, and it comes with the poster map of the region (and free PDFs). This contains all the information we mentioned that's not in the Player Gazeteer. Also available just in pdf, of course.

(3) Additional Resources (make-your-own "resource kit")
An extensive pick-and-choose set of additional resources is where the Kickstarter gets fun, and where you can assemble whatever additional elements you want to supplement your core book, creating an extended "kit" tailored to the way you run your games. The main one is a hardcover book of seven brand-new, full-length adventures, called "Adventures in the Borderland Provinces," which gives you an instant starting point for general campaigning. Plus, there's the above-mentioned Player Gazeteer, a Player Guide, a book we call the "Journey Generator," and lots more. None of these are necessary for play, but all are excellent supplemental resources to add.

Official announcement will be some time on October 15, as soon as Kickstarter gives us the link.

Looking forward to seeing you in the Borderland Provinces!
Matt

I hear the lead designer on that book visits EN World from time to time, if people have any questions for him. ;)

Like: Are you the only designer writing adventures for the book? :)

Nope! I supervised everything, and I wrote one of the adventures, but each adventure was written by a different contributor. I wanted a variety of styles and voices, to showcase the different possibilities of the Borderlands as an adventure setting. Other authors are Scott Fitzgerald Gray, Eytan Bernstein, Anthony Pryor, CA Suleiman, Rhiannon Louve, and Gwendolyn Kestrel.

You have no idea how happy the inclusion of Scott's name on that list makes me. :)

Cheers!
