The making of Sephera

Thanks!

Thanks Xath! I really appreciate the advice!

I will need to wait a while to work on the costume. I know my belly won't be the same size next year! There's no telling what size I'll be up top either. Another consideration I hadn't thought of earlier is that I may still be nursing during next year's GenCon. Taping my garment to me might make that a bit difficult. Maybe I'll make it a little more modest...

Plenty of ideas whirling around. I can hardly wait to be able to even leave the house to look at fabrics. I made the BIG mistake of trying to go with Torin and our kids to pick up school supplies. I'm just glad I thought to use a wheelchair while I was there, I never would have survived otherwise. The kids and Torin had a tendancy to just leave me somewhere and go off on their own. At one point, I had my three year old pushing me around! Today they're all off at work and school, so maybe I can just rest.

Actually, having the garment taped like that would make it really easy to breast feed. (Garment tape doesn't hurt (normally)). You'd just have to pop the boob out and you'd be set.

If you want to do something with a costume while you're on bedrest, find something with some embroidery. You can do that while relaxing, and still gain a sense of accomplishment.

You do not need to have made your costume for the contest (depending on what division you enter), but it does help in some of them.

For $39.95, just get a guy with a metal saw to cut the blade off. That's not a quality piece - that's a show piece. Or contact the company selling it and ask if they'll sell scabbard and hilt for the same price sans blade. A real rapier has a tang into the handle. They are made to be removable (with a little effort). This may be a cheap piece of steel welded in place. In which case, it's less dangerous than just hitting someone with the blade in the scabbard. The real problem you face is someone wanting to inspect it to be sure that there's no blade. Good luck!

Hey Seph!

I got so wrapped up in That Other Thread that I forgot to welcome you! So Welcome! Warning, some of them really do bite ;)

If you're worried about not being your "normal" size for GenCon next year, may I suggest buying something a little less expensive than your seamstress would make? Then you can have her do things right when you have settled into a more normal form? Try http://www.by-the-sword.com/ (Links not working for me, so you get the raw URL) For expensive but not outrageous and good quality stuff. Someone else might have suggestions for cheaper options since we're only talking about one GenCon here...

Just a thought,
Don.

Sewing

I've found a pattern I can modify for the top. It looks like it may be fairly easy. I also found boots on eBay. I think this is going to work. :D

Now I have to decide whether I want my character Sephera to match my costume Sephera. I would need to take a martial weapons feat... and a weapons finesse feat. Thunderfoot, I look forward to many more gaming sessions to level Sephera up appropriately. Hehehe

Maybe if I get really ambitious, I'll make both costumes, so Sephera can show of her courtly manners, too.

Gotta clean off the sewing table.

Take care,

-Sephera
