The Mayonnaise Jar and 2 Cups of Coffee

Man, what a waste of perfectly good coffee! :p

(I've got nothing against the story, I just feel a pang of remorse whenever coffee is poured out.)

I'd guess it means that a persons life could be cut short. It might not happen for days, weeks or if you are really careful, years.

Note to self: Never retell this parable, using a glass jar which is cracked and threatening to break, to someone that is likely to interpret the phrase this jar represents your life literally.

No offense, but I really hate this story. It was first told to me by a hack of a CEO who was trying to explain what we should focus on as a company. Get the big stuff first. No *poop* *Poirot*. Also, don't think "OR", think "AND." When you say, I can do it quickly OR do it right, you really should be saying: I can do it quickly AND get it right. And that'll solve your problems. Think big rocks!

Nonsense. The power has gone out at my rock's daycare, so I have to go pick it up. But I can't because my pebble is broken, and I have to wait for the repairman. The other rock is going over to get it, which is too bad because that rock has been spending so much time making another rock that we worry it's pebble is going to stop giving it sand. And you want me to go for coffee? Sorry, but no.

I've also received it in various incarnations in chain letters over the years, and that puts it right up there with that whole footprints story.

This is a particularly pleasant telling, at least.
