the most common non-magic magic items

ever notice some folks seem to have fantastic magic right in their grip without looting or buying it?

there is always the guy with the "everfull quiver",someone is invariably carrying the "bag of eternal rations" and i am amazed at the "buttful of rope and spikes" that never count towards encumbrance but always seem handy.

anybody have any others?

there is the "boots of I ignore the endurance rules" and "bacvkbrace of no encumbrance" and my favorite "Spellbook of safety"

Thieves tools of everpresence.

unique and expensive material components of alwaysthere.

Non-specific lightsource of hovering.

Sealyposturepedic full plate.

Weather proof endless ball point wax coated mapping set.

And here is one of my all time pet peeves. All characters I have ever known in gaming have such an uncanny sense of fashion and social daring do that they selected at puberty THE only set of close they will EVER need.

It is rugged, fashionable, inexpensive, flame retardant, de-odorizing, appropriate for court or prison and wrinkle resistant.

Wadda mean ? We have to actually calculate how much food, water, arrows and rope we carry ? Come on !! Anyone can carry a 50 lb hemp rope INSIDE their backpack ! What about the spell components that are ever lasting ?

We had a DM that made us control what spell components we had. Silly thing. Imagine the DM being interrupted 10 times a session (we were 3 spellcasters) asking if we could see such and such plant... or spider webs or incense in town !!

I don't mind with the rations or arrows thing unless it gets out of hand... I just consider it "standard gear". Nor do I make players specify that they are buying more... I mean... if your quiver was down to one arrow and you were in a town with arrows, wouldn't you buy some? Same with rations. I assume they do unless they say otherwise.

Otherwise my players start passing note saying "I'm going to the bathroom", "I'm exhaling", "I'm blinking", etc to drive the point home

Ones we use a lot are the "horses who seemingly know how to hide at a cave mouth from incoming and outgoing evil creatures and never go hungry because apparently a small herd of horses can flourish on the few plants and inedible thorn brush you find in front of the cave of evil or decimated temple of ancient reawakened evil guarded by only a few orcs with lots of treasure they don't use to buy anything better than a rusty, notched, cheap longsword."

We also use the "NPC used as a plot device who follows us around everywhere and is a badass druid who is seeking revenge on the evil tyrant who destroyed his village but never engages in combat so we don't have to share XP with him."

;)
