Rumors are worth what you pay for 'em. Folks heard a lot of things before Enterprise hit the screen, and most of it was incorrect.

It was actually a legal issue. The writer that came up with the name would have royalty rights for the name, every time it was used. So, they'd have to pay every time "T'Pau" was said. Every episode!
