WHAT WONDERFUL WITCHERY IS THIS?

A magical mixture of rules options for the world's greatest roleplaying game.

The wizard Tasha, whose great works include the spell Tasha’s hideous laughter, has gathered bits and bobs of precious lore during her illustrious career as an adventurer. Her enemies wouldn’t want these treasured secrets scattered across the multiverse, so in defiance, she has collected and codified these tidbits for the enrichment of all.
  • EXPANDED SUBCLASSES. Try out subclass options for every Dungeons & Dragons class, including the artificer, which appears in the book.
  • MORE CHARACTER OPTIONS. Delve into a collection of new class features and new feats, and customize your character’s origin using straightforward rules for modifying a character’s racial traits.
  • INTRODUCING GROUP PATRONS. Whether you're part of the same criminal syndicate or working for an ancient dragon, each group patron option comes with its own perks and types of assignments.
  • SPELLS, ARTIFACTS & MAGIC TATTOOS. Discover more spells, as well as magic tattoos, artifacts, and other magic items for your campaign.
  • EXPANDED RULES OPTIONS. Try out rules for sidekicks, supernatural environments, natural hazards, and parleying with monsters, and gain guidance on running a session zero.
  • A PLETHORA OF PUZZLES. Ready to be dropped into any D&D adventure, puzzles of varied difficulty await your adventurers, complete with traps and guidance on using the puzzles in a campaign.
Full of expanded content for players and Dungeon Masters alike, this book is a great addition to the Player's Handbook and the Dungeon Master’s Guide. Baked in you'll find more rule options for all the character classes in the Player's Handbook, including more subclass options. Thrown in for good measure is the artificer class, a master of magical invention. And this witch's brew wouldn't be complete without a dash of added artifacts, spellbook options, spells for both player characters and monsters, magical tattoos, group patrons, and other tasty goodies.

Am I the only one thinking that some of this overlaps with LevelUp and all the other threads over the last couple weeks?
My impression is that this is basically Xanathar's Guide II. More stuff, and some additional subsystems, but nothing that actually changes the game. For example, once you've chosen your sub-class, you're basically on rails when it comes to mechanics for the rest of the game. This contrasts with e.g. Pathfinder 2 where you have two or more meaningful choices each time you go up a level.

If I've understood LevelUp correctly, the plan there is basically to make a more complex game that's more or less compatible with core 5e, but with more options – not just "more things from which to choose" but also "more places where a choice is needed."

Also, any idea what new spells they might be talking about? You don't... they wouldn't reprint the Dunnamancy spells too would they?

I think it'll be the Psionic themed ones... and I REALLY REALLY hope they reprint the SCAG cantrips... maybe even add more of that type (a ranged weapon attack version would be cool, just for thematic reasons).

Well, actually... I don't think it will. I was thinking about this and I've almost never refferred to Xanathar's Guide to Everything as anything more than "Xanathar's".

Yes, there might be a few eye rolls in terms of "well that was supposed to have everything and this is supposed to have everything, but neither of them have everything", but I don't think any actual confusion
I’ve typically seen it called “book of everything” online.
How many new players to the game know what a Xanator is or how to spell it? Plus kids asking their parents for the new DND book for Christmas might be in for an unpleasant surprise.

Looks pretty damn good. Sounds like they charted a middle ground with race, and resolved their differences around psionics if the artwork is to be believed. I’m glad WoC is producing a product that responsive to the community without being beholden to keep every person happy.

That psionics passed muster is excellent if true. It paves the way for Dark Sun and shows that a small but vocal group don’t get to stop good stuff happening.
