Huh....

Anyone else find it a bit odd they are reprinting the Artificer and the Group Patron rules from Eberron: Rising from the Last War?


Also, any idea what new spells they might be talking about? You don't... they wouldn't reprint the Dunnamancy spells too would they?

I love that image with Baba Yaga's hut though, that is some sweet art.

I would be curious how the puzzle rules are set-up too, that is always one of the most difficult things to run properly IME

A second “of everything” book.

That's totally not going to confuse anyone...

Well, actually... I don't think it will. I was thinking about this and I've almost never refferred to Xanathar's Guide to Everything as anything more than "Xanathar's".


Yes, there might be a few eye rolls in terms of "well that was supposed to have everything and this is supposed to have everything, but neither of them have everything", but I don't think any actual confusion

So the Artificer was already released in the Eberron Book and the Sidekick rules in the most recent starter set. Not a big fan of them re-printing of things but I'll live with it.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who didn't want to buy a whole campaign setting just for a couple of player options for whom it will be a welcome alternative way of accessing the class.

During the press briefing they did not get too deep into new spells and magic items in TCoE but there are some tidbits to share. For starters Tasha adds new spells of her own design to D&D canon. Tasha’s caustic brew and Tasha’s otherworldly guise are two mentioned and I’m excited to see more. Spells named for the wizards who created them evokes a sense of mystery and wonder in all D&D players and after all her incredible excursions and magical experimentation I’m certain Tasha’s influence on 5E D&D will be immense.

One of the magic items Crawford talked about sounds totally awesome — the Tarokka Deck. Not like, any old prophetic card deck though. This is THE Tarokka Deck, an artifact capable of trapping spirits.


Gotta say, I'm surprised that the Psionic stuff is planning on being included here, that catches me off guard.

I'm am curious about that Otherworldly Guise though.

A deck to capture spirits? That sounds like a fun mechanic.

Yeah, the reprinting of the Artificer will likely see that class start showing up in the main Adventurers League. That to me is the big utility of it; I imagine most DMs that wanted it in their games already added it, but the AL restrictions would've kept it out of everything but the Eberron adventures.


Also, with the added artwork, I would imagine that one of the new artifacts is going to be Baba Yaga's Hut. That's going to be cool.
 

  • More options are appreciated. May be nearing saturation for me personally for things like subclasses but we will see.
  • Love the alternate cover.
  • New takes on core systems are what was needed so I'm curious to see the execution but I am hopeful.

  • The title really feel derivative. Also, would have preferred Iggwilv but yeah, how in hell would one pronounce it so there is that.
  • Mixed feelings on reprinting the Artificer in the book. If it gets new subclasses I can deal.

It's a must buy for me, but then really any "core" rules book is. I will admit that had I known Artificer was coming in another book, I might have held off on getting Ebberon, as the new class was a big motivator for picking that one up.
