20d6+ 1d6/per level * 1.5 or 52.5d6 for an 8th level slot or 7d6 on a successful save.
Think its worth it?

Either way, however, you have to deal with this question: If you can get your opponents to fail a (DC 16+bonus) fort save, why aren't you just casting Wierd, Wail of the Banshee, or Finger of Death (for a DC 17-19+bonus save)? And if you can't get your opponent to fail a fort save, why bother with Disintegrate?

Agreed. Thoes most likely to make their save already have a lot of HP, 3eR just makes disentegrate twice as useless against them.Elder-Basilisk said:Maximized? Possibly. 240 points of damage will kill most NPCs if they fail their saves. (Although, against the rare monster with lousy fort saves, it's still not likely to kill it unless the creature is undead).
Empowered--probably not. 183 points of damage on average isn't likely to kill much of anything you'll be fighting when you're casting 8th level spells.

And with all that in mind, I don't see why Disintegrate was changed to begin with.Elder-Basilisk said:My point, however, is that characters generally have better options than an empowered or maximized disintegrate. It needs a touch attack, allows a fort save (for next to nothing), and even then may not do enough damage to kill its target. A genuine death spell cuts out two of the ways that the spell can fail (touch attack and hit points) and would have a higher DC to boot.
