The new Dungeon Magazine HC compilation...

Treebore

First Post
How is it? How are the maps? Are there any truly new, reasonably original scenarios and ideas in this? Or are they old ideas redone in 4E dressing?

Any of the adventures absolutely rock? Why?

The ToC is on the WotC site, I think. They are all adventures already published for 4E. I've used pieces of a couple in my campaign, but I have never run one of these whole cloth. If you have DDI, no reason to get this at all that I can think of.

I don't have DDI, I don't even play 4E. I play Castles and Crusades, which makes it easy for me to use 4E adventures. So I want to know if this is worth getting.

Ah. Sorry.

Of the adventures, I know the most about the lower level one. It's a good adventure, imo. I will be running it someday. I don't know much about the others, other than the art is good. I can go back and check the others later and let you know.

Treebore, I wouldn't recommend it. There is only 1 strong adventure out of the bunch (Stormtower). There is one as part of the adventure path, which is hard to run as a standalone. I played through the Icy Spire and it's just ok, nothing special.

I would suggest getting 1 month of DDI and just downloading all the adventures that have been released. Mouseferatu's Last Breath of Ashenport is really cool, which was left out for some reason.

Yeah, thats what I was afraid of. Back when I was trying out 4E we did the first 3, maybe 4 adventures they released. I wasn't impressed then, and was afraid they wouldn't impress me now. Seems like my concerns were justified.

Anyone think the adventures in this are good?

Unfortunately this seems like par for the course on the compilations: for some reason they feel the need to NOT give out the best.

Especially for adventures, you're best off just getting DDI for a month and downloading the whole lot. That makes it easy to run off as many maps and handouts as you want.
