The official "End of Farscape Thread"

While I can't easily cancel the Sci-Fi Channel, they have managed to whittle down the number of shows I watch... to one.

I still like Stargate: SG-1 (In fact, it's been a big influence on my Planescape campaign), but they have managed to cancel, destroy, or remove all the value from every other show I have ever liked on that channel.

As I mentioned in my letter -- the one I sent in hopes of making them reconsider pulling the Farscape plug -- I am in their prime demographic. I am a 25-year old male with a college education and a lot of disposable income. And I would never, ever buy anything advertised on that damn network because they kill everything I have ever loved on television (which wasn't much to begin with).

And I know I'm not alone here at ENWorld.

I just do not understand AT ALL the logic that would cancel a wonderful series like Farscape and replace it with the unmitigated CRAP that a series in the Tremors universe will be. My god, out of three movies -- and a new one coming that won't even get a theatrical release! -- couldn't they have realized by now that only ONE of those movies was worth a 4 dollar matinee ticket??

And yet, even in the twilight season when they are crunched for time and don't have much money, the Farscape team manages to turn in a wonderful swan song... great acting, good FX, and excellent writing leading up to... the worst cancellation cliff-hanger ever put onto celluloid. I agree with jdavis: Once you hear you won't get a fifth season, leave off that 1 minute clip at the end. Even having the ship fly over -- leaving them in danger -- would have been far, far better.

I will truly miss Pilot, John, Aeryn, D'Argo, Chiana, and the rest of the memorable cast... and Harvey/Scorpius. I'll miss you most of all, Harvey.

If ever there was a character that I really aspired to recreate in D&D, it would be Scorpius. Can you imagine a better villain/ally/informer/torturer/WHATEVER to trick, befuddle, confuse, outwit, and hamper PCs?

If I can ever make a villain 1/5 as good as Scorpius, I will hang up my hat and never DM again... for I will have achieved Nerdvana. I will be one with the dice.

Me and Dargo....Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wrong on so many level. To end and have the "to be continued' message on screen, then the SciFi channels "we would like to thank..." SciFionly has 3 hours a week (2 show and minis over the year) of shows and they end Farscape like that. I just hope Tremors and scare tactics fail.

I forgot about Scare Tactics, doesn't that just have mid season cancellation written all over it. And whatever happened to the Dreamteam with Annabelle and some guy? Is the channel tring to die, are they wanting to drive away their core audience? Have they gone insane? I could buy the crap story on Farscape being cancelled for bad ratings if they would actually put out a show that could generate any ratings at all. It's almost like they don't care about the ratings with everything else they are throwing out there. They have tried with thier miniseries and movie specials but their series shows are just going down the tubes.

I think Dream Team's been cancelled (or put on "haitus"). A small bit of justice I suppose.

As for Scare Tactics, I have to admit I'm looking forward to this. I kind of miss that show on MTV where they used to drop a bunch of 18 yr olds into supposedly haunted places and watch them panic. So, I'm a sadist, what can I say? :D

I stopped watching it when they began to get away from scares and became more "Fear Factor" (like having people burried alive, eating a piece of pig's leg, etc.).

I'm kind of confused about Tremors, though. I mean, I know the movies have a cult following as a throwback to '50's giant monster movies, but how can you make a series about it? I'd understand if they had the characters involved with other '50's-type monsters. You know, traveling around fighting giant ants, radioactive lizards, etc.. But trying to hold together a series about giant worms in one, small town? I have a feeling the episodes will look like this:

Someone's birthday festivites are interrupted by a worm attack.

The church bake sale is interrupted by a worm attack.

A wedding is interrupted by a worm attack.

A big date is interrupted by a worm attack.

Some bigwig wants to build a factory (fast food restaurant, etc.) in the town, but the worms attack. Uh-oh, I guess he's not going to build anything here! Hilarity ensues!

*sigh*

A Cause for Hope?

I have read that the episode was filmed BEFORE the cancellation notice. After watching the shocking ending, I took a little time to watch the end of the rerun of tonight's episode.

The alien in the fighter ship is ordered to "neutralize them for analysis." This phrasing is a bit odd. Perhaps Aeryn and Crichton can be revived by some sort of alien device. (The fact that they appeared to turn to pebbles was a bit odd. Maybe someone can findout what was supposed to happen.)

I am pretty pessimistic about the Sci Fi Channel. The only currently running show that they have which I care about to any degree is Stargate. However, I have never been into Stargate as much as I was with Farscape.

Fortunately, there are reports that the Sci Fi Channel is up for sale. Let's hope that it gets better management.

The problem is how many times can you scare somebody with Bigfoot or a alien abduction before people get tired of it. It will be fun for five or six episodes then they will have to start rehashing old ideas. There are only so many pranks they can pull to scare people before they run out of things to do. I used to love the Mtv series but after a season it just got stale. I give them a decent initial pop at the ratings then after a couple of weeks it will start to slide, this would of made a good special, but it won't have staying power for a series, and it will have absolutly no value in reruns.

I went back and watched the end of Farscape again, there was a moment where they were kissing and the music died which sort of felt like a false ending before the big cliff hanger, it was right then when they should of stopped it. Other than that I loved the episode, I'll never get to find out if Bracca is a voyuer or just ends up stuck in embarassing situations alot, I will never get to see if Chianna gets her eyesight back, I'll never get to see the place the Scarrans get their cool headgear from, I'll never get to see Dargo become a godfather for baby Crichton or if Rigel will ever get his throne back, or even if Scorpius will ever get out of John's head (farewell Harvey, you made a lousy easter bunny). thanks Sci Fi, thanks a pantload. And thanks Farscape, with the exception of the last minute of footage it was a heck of a ride.

Saw the finale 6 hours ago and still can't fall asleep. What an ending!!! I'm hoping for more - direct to video - anything.

As for Scare Tactics, if I remember reading it correctly, they've already been sued for the antics on the show. I don't expect it to last long at all. Very, very risky. What if someone they scare has an unknown heart condition or something similar. That could sink a network.

Oh, I'm sure they were still alive. One of the things I didn't like about Farscape for a time was the weekly 'And this time a crewmember dies...no, really!'.

I'm mildly surprised they could not re edit to a happier ending if this was really the end. Just a minute earlier and it would have been an ending with closure.

The only character who ever died and came back was Aeryn. Zhaan died and she is gone for good as are Crais and Talyn. While it did happen from time to time, it didn't happen much nor was it overused.

The worst thing of all (for me) - the last 2 seasons of Farscape did not yet air in Germany, so when I will see the last episode (if I am lucke, end of this year, more probably in 1 or 2 years), everybody of you will already have forgotten about it, and there will be no Farscape threads here where I can complain about the end :(

Damn, maybe I will just have to get the last 2 seasons by... other sources ...
