Slightly off-topic, but...

This thread's titel ("Return of the Sith") made me think about the actual name of Episode III ("Revenge of the Sith").

IIRC, the original title for Episode VI was "Revenge of the Jedi", but changed to "Return of the Jedi" during production. But wouldn't if made more sense if Episode VI was named "Revenge of the Jedi", and Episode III "Return of the Sith"?

Just a thought.

No, it wouldn't make sense. Remember:

1. a Jedi doesn't take revenge.
2. the Jedi have been all but wiped out. They are returning.
3. the Sith are exacting their revenge against the Jedi, since there are so many and who have reduced the Sith significantly. Remember, the Empire wasn't all about the Sith (we'll find out what what the relationship is between Palpatine and Sidious in Ep. III).
4. remember Darth Maul's second and last line? "At last we will have revenge."

Can't really argue with that. Then again, Luke goes head-to-head against Vader and Palpatine. He is revenging the Jedis, if he wants to or not.

The Sith have been in hiding. They are returning.

True. How 'bout we say the movies could be named either way? ;)
(But I don't know why it should matter if the Empire was "all about the Sith" or not; we're not talking about Episode IV here...)

4. remember Darth Maul's second and last line? "At last we will have revenge."
I'd rather not think about Darth Maul. And even if I did, what should I care what this cheap excuse of a Sith does say? ;)
(Still, a good point...)

??? aren't Palpatine and Sidious the same person? Or am I missing something major here....

That's never been explained. They've been played by the same actor, yes, but IIRC from one of the Episode III trailers, Sidious' face looks more corrupted like the later Emperor's, whereas Palpatine just looks gray and wrinkly, barely normal for a long-lived human's.

Its pretty much certain that they are the same person. From the same actor, to comments from Lucas in the Ep II commentary when he mentions how Palpatine is manipulating things.

Sure, the makeup is a bit different, but instead of comparing it to the RotJ makeup, we should look at him in the new footage put into the holoprojector scene in the DVD of Empire Strikes Back. THAT looks exactly like what we've seen in leaked images, trailers, etc for RotS.

...of course, there's still that 1% chance that maybe, just maybe, they aren't the same. However, the closer we get to the movie and the more that has gotten out, the less likely that has become.
