The one fighter to rule them all....

Endurance?

So i looked up the feat and i still can not figure out why you would have this, and how it assist you in your build? Now this is due mostly to my lack of understanding most of the more subtle aspects of 3.5. So could you let me in on the secret?
Thanks!

If you choose to have a higher dexterity with a fighter; for example (using a 40 point buy and 10th level; which includes the two ability score level increases at 4th & 8th)

Str: 18
Dex: 16
Con: 14
Int: 14
Wis: 14
Cha: 10

The dexterity bonus of +3 can allow me to effectively wear breastplate and get a mundane +8 out of it; 1 shy of wearing full plate with the +1 dex.

Amongst the less “fighter like” benefits of endurance (which by the way have proven to be VERY useful to my PC’s in the past; though not day in and day out like some feats) - Endurance allows you to sleep in medium armor and wake up in the morning and not be fatigued – otherwise you are. Thus one can wear the armor all day long and not worry. If you wore heavy armor (which endurance does not cover) you have to take it off whilst you sleep or be fatigued when you wake up. This essentially means that a heavy armor wearing fighter should have an additional suit of light armor to wear when he sleeps in the event that one is attacked at night or when sleeping.

Medium armor has its own advantages, one being you can have the higher dex score (which means better reflex saves, skill checks, ranged weapon bonus, etc.) and another being that it can be donned with ease when compared to heavy armor.

Unless you ever ran into being attacked in your skivvies you may not appreciate the value of this.

Now getting that 3 Dex is a trade off, of course, agasint the other ability scores...but hey ya can't have everything.

Why, why, why, does everyone seem to think a fighter should have a ranged weapon? if you get just one more feat or cough up just a little more dough, you can get it so that you can throw your main weapons and dont need a bow or other ranged weapon. also, since you are tenth level, consider using alchemical fire and other alchemy products with a sling. Believe me, it's devastating to opponents.

The PHB alcehmists fire, to EL's for tenth level is really not all that damaging. If youc an get/create better ones that would be another story.

But to your main point - a fighter has the best BAB in the game be it with a sword in hand or not. Why waste it? why not allow your fighter to toss that spear to get the extra d6 + Str bonus of damage on the badguy in that first round when the badguy is out of reach? What abotu those enemies you don't want to get close to with real nasty touch attacks; rust monsters come to mind.

You may not use your ranged weapon as much as your sword; but I can tell you from experince in AD&D forward that it is a mistake for any character be unable to attack at range with something.

Me - at lower levels I always go with a composite longbow with an appropriate Str bonus along with a few javelins for throwing (I almost always take quick draw for any PC - as throwing allows me not to have to don or put down my shield or sheath or unsheath my sword). So I am ready for longer term - longer ranged ranged combat (bow) and shorter term - shorter ranged combat (javelins).
