The power of words

There is an old saying that has many forms in many cultures. Here in the USA, it is usually heard in its Christian formulation (from Proverbs 18:21):

"Death and life are in the power of the tongue: they that love it, shall eat the fruits thereof."

Also translated as:

"What you say can preserve life or destroy it; so you must accept the consequences of your words."

Well, some Chinese researchers did something very clever with it:

Emotional abuse can have terrible impact. For example: what we think of as "mere words" can produce effects in children that we normally think of only applying to soldiers in battle - PTSD.

Words mean things. Words have power. We must be careful to not misuse that power.
