The Punisher movie

The thing of it is, they made a Punisher movie a few years ago starring Dolph Lundgren and it stunk.

DJ, iirc, The origin of the Punisher was that he used to be a cop, but when his family was killed by gangsters, he went uber-loco and started a vigilante-vendetta against criminals everywhere.

In other words, a pretty blatant Batman-origin ripoff, IMO.

I never was that fond of the Punisher comics, it seemed a pretty thin character concept and lost any interest from me long before the popularity of it died down.

Parenthetical aside: Thomas Jane (real name Tom Elliott) isn't huge, but he's in pretty good shape. The biggest issue he might have is that he isn't all that tall. He's no midget, but he doesn't "loom." I actually went to elementary, junior high & high school with him (he's a year or two younger than me). He's a nice guy, but I haven't spoken to him in years.

Here is something from SciFiWire (http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2003-06/25/11.00.film):

Thomas Jane, who stars in the upcoming film adaptation of Marvel Comics' Punisher series, told SCI FI Wire that he begins filming at the end of June and that the film's action will include realistic fighting. "All old-school stuff," Jane said in an interview. "What would you really do to take these [bad] guys out? What it usually comes down to is, you poke their eyes out, you slit their throat, break their nose, brutal stuff. That kind of ends the fight kind of quickly. That's why you don’t see it too much. No wires, no Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon stuff. It's all going to be real world."

Punisher will tell the story of a man whose family is killed, turning him into a vigilante with weapons and gadgets, in full costume. Jane has been undergoing physical training for the title role. "I'm working with Navy Seals," he said. "I've got two trainers, and I work out twice a day. I'm just exhausted all the time. I sleep." Artisan plans to release The Punisher in the summer of 2004.

He was never a cop, not in the 616 universe. He was a 'Nam vet,
although (because of obvious reasons) they stopped mentioning
the 'Nam part and now he just seems to be a general Army vet.

In the Ultimate Universe, though, he's a Army-vet-turned-cop-
turned-vigilante.

Actually, he's an admitted Mack Bolan rip-off. Plus, he was
originally a Spider-Man villain.

Travolta will be a great villain if the director manages to keep his massive ego in control (oh god the movie is doomed).

I used to read Punisher when I was a kid, and enjoyed them, but he is a definate rip off of Mack Bolan. I also remember having the Spidey comic where the punisher makes his first appearance but that comic collection was lost many, many years ago. There was talk many years ago of a Mack Bolan movie starring Stallone but it never came to be.

far as i can tell..
ive already spoken on the beefy nonsense.
better thomas jane than lundgren or schwarnegger

and they ARE using parts of ennis and dillons run in this movie.
not the whole storyline, but parts of it.
