The Retaking of Forgehold - 4E

Angel was sitting at the table next to Mal and had been drinking quite a lot, as usual. In fact, she was pretty drunk by now, but she seemed happy.

While laughing softly, she leans to the side and rests her head on Mal's shoulder. "Hey... looks like we wont have to wake up early tomorow. How about you... and me... spend the night in your bed? Because you know, I really like you, you know. And I'm not saying this because I'm drunk, because I'm not even really that drunk. just a little tipsy..." she says, not really paying attention to others sitting at the table.

Mal frowns, uneasy at first.

-''Well... It's not like back at that inn with the crazy cultists. We're team mates now. It's probably not a good idea... Oh, hell, whenever I try to do the reasonable thing, I screw myself anyway. Let's do something crazy.''

His mind made up, he turns on his seat to kiss Angel.

You set off on the trip north without delay. The old Dwarven road is
partly overgrown and fallen into disrepair. From place to place the
old paving stones are absent or displaced, but it is still a fairly
easy route. You can see signs that a lot of the plant growth has been
cut back recently, as well as some work done to repair the worst of
the stones.

After a few days of unusually uneventful travel, you fall into a bit of
a lull, talking to the guards and merchants, and others seeking their
fortunes in Forgehold.

[sblock=ooc] Sorry for being so slow to respond. Life is kicking my ass.[/sblock]

Arden spends the uneventful days of travel studying incessantly. In the spare time, he consults with Aelek about battle tactics, tries to discuss the arcane arts with Angel (with little success), answers about a hundred of Mira's questions, and rolls eyes at Mal's boasts...all in all, one of the happiest moments in his life.
One of these peaceful days, he's sitting on a moving cart, writing a (boring) log of the journey, and trying to get some information from a couple of guards: So, sir, Whate were you saying is the situation in Forgehold at this moment? Are there many hired adventurers like us there? And is there a sizeable "reconquered outpost in the city?

Bearing routine gracefully was never one of Mal's forte. Stealing a few hours of training at daybreak or before supper isn' nearly enough to save him from the demons of boredom.

So during the trip he spent his travel times telling tall tales about every subject that crossed his mind, from the sexual mores of beholders (''They give great head!'') to the workings of the democracy of the Troll Federation (''They cast votes by throwing a gnome in the appropriate pit. The one with hell hounds for Nay and the one with the Displacer beasts for Aye. Then they count the number of beast still clamoring for its meal in each pit, the winner being the one with the least. When there is a locked vote, the president can throw the youngest delegate in the pit of his choice to break the tie.'')

Disbelief was met with supreme indifference by Mal while people who joined the fun by adding their own absurd spin on the subject at hand where encouraged to enter a contest to see who copuld come up with the wackiest story.

When that wasn't enough, he would work on the biography of Frosty, start an accorn fight or play travelling games (''I spy with my little eye, something that starts by H. You give up? It's a horse's ass. For the past week!'')

All in all, he would be glad to see Forgehold and finally kill something.

Angel expected a long and boring trip, so she made sure to stock up on drinks for the road. She spent most of the days sitting in a corner and looking at the horizon. She usualy started drinking near the evenings and was drunk by bedtime. She wasnt very friendly with most except her traveling companions, they usualy received simple short answers whenever they talked to her. She was a bit more friendly after a few drinks.

On that day, Angel was sitting next to Mal and listened to all his stories that made no sense at all, but made no comment about them. Later in the day, she was growing impatient...

'Why is it so damn far? I've been sitting her for days and I have no idea how many more days it'll take. They should've told us, I would have bought more drinks for the road..." she says, annoyed and bored.

she started fanning herself some "and why is it so hot? I need to burn something..."

Aelek follow the group, staying mostly with Mal, listening to his stories, sometimes replying to him ("I thought they each cut a finger and gives it to the leader they want, and the winner can keep teh fingers and make a collar with them to show how much support they had.") He doesn't talk much to other people in the caravan, not even much to others companions.

"I thought they each cut a finger and gives it to the leader they want, and the winner can keep teh fingers and make a collar with them to show how much support they had."

-''No, you're confusing the executive and legislative branch of the Troll Federation. Cutting fingers is how the tribes select their champion delegate for the election of the Supreme War Chief. Once selected, these delegates gather in an arena and rally to the banner of their favorite candidate for the throne. They then proceed to fight and decapitate each other. At the end of the day, as always, the side with the largest head count wins.''
