You're kidding right? Chess is obscenely unbalanced. There may be two people at the table, but they are not playing the same game, not by a long shot.

The game of White plays the same game every time. There's no variety, nothing new to the game each time. Boring, bleh!

The game of Black has 20 different options to start. Granted this is chosen by the guy playing White, but 20 different games is a helluva lot more variety than 1.

I'll grant you there is some overlap, but it's not just some piece that makes that game broken.
