D&D General The Story of Eberron: Forge of the Artificer

That is an S-Tier plot hook, risking Eizatd WW2 through PC Shennanigans is amazing.
Yeah, I pointed it out in a different thread, but it's great stuff. Of course, the Construct Forge is a Level 17 bastion facility, so it's wholly end game stuff.

Creating a Warforged Titan takes 250 days and costs 200,000 gp. Here's the caveat in full: "Creating new Warforged Titans is illegal under the terms of the Treaty of Korth, which ended the Last War. Violating that treaty risks reigniting open war across Khorvaire."

"Treaty of Korth" should be "Treaty of Thronehold", but I'll let that error slide.

A fun detail I noticed as I was reading Forge of the Artificer: The art pieces in the book line up to tell a story when placed in the correct order.

Prologue: A Cannith Artificer is shown secretly creating a new Warforged, a clear violation of the Treaty of Thornehold, in a secret Creation Forge in Sharn.
Something I only just discovered, having reached the end of the book, is that these art pieces are all repeated in an appendix, mostly in order (it’s possible DDB has shuffled the order accidentally) to show the story in full.

I think the idea is that the Warforged created in the first images is the same one found killed by the Battle Smith.

Huh, I had spotted the recurring characters (they're also in the House Agent images and no doubt elsewhere), and I saw the connection between the skyskiff image and the museum image, but I didn't realize just how much of a story there is. That actually makes me feel better about the art - I was concerned that the art in the OP was an indication that they were making it so any old artificer could create a new warforged, but that does not appear to be the case. I've also since read more of the book and see that they haven't changed the lore - it specifically mentions that Merrix is rumored to have the last creation forge hidden away in Sharn and that he wants to build a new one in Stormreach.

(EDIT: I've also seen no rules about PCs creating warforged. The construct forge bastion facility lets you create a warforged titan, but it comes with the caveat that doing so is illegal and risks plunging the nations of Khorvaire into open warfare again.)

I guess the prologue images are just a bit of creative licence.

Overall, I'm feeling a lot better about this book, and I am looking forward to getting a hard copy soon. My Eberron campaign is currently at 8th level, and I am planning to take it all the way to 20th with Vecna Vol: Eve of Ruin, so I'm sure to get some good use out of this new book. My artificer player has also been champing at the bit to upgrade his PC. All the others are now using the 2024 versions of their classes, but he's been stuck using the 2014 version. I'd say the new one is a fairly solid upgrade for him.
I have a thought as i work on an alternate artificer, that each subclass should get a legendary item unique ro the subclass at level 17. The armorer would likely be a titan mech. iirc titans have only rudimentary autonomy, rigbt?

Correct. Warforged Titans are not particularly intelligent and are intended to serve as mounts for other combatants. They're kind of like walking battering rams / siege towers.
